So, Star Wars TLJ recently came out and it's been having mixed thoughts and feelings come with it. I'm interested to see what you all thought about the film.

I'm on my phone currently so I'll post my response tomorrow.

Spoiler alert btw, if you haven't noticed it from the title

Disappointed in it. I hated the Cato Bight casino sequence, it's very un Star Wars like. Rose is a disappointing character. Space Jesus Leia was probably the worst direction choice I had ever seen in an A list movie. The fact the resistance could fit inside the Falcon at the end was extremely dissapointing as well. Character development was also minimal.

    How to fix the movie:

The resistance is actually larger, with cells of millions, even billions of fighters all over the Galaxy, engaging the first order everywhere. Leia's cell successfully evacuates, with Poe destroying the dreadnought. The resistance fleet flees and jumps into hyperspace. But when dropping out of hyperspace, the first order catches up too. They try to call for help to the numerous other resistance fleets in the Galaxy, but are being jammed by Snoke's ship. Kylo uses his TIE Silencer to attack the capital ship. He hesitates to blow up the bridge, but his escorts do. The bridge is blown up. This kills all bridge staff, except Leia, who holds on to the ship and successfully stays inside without dying, but suffers serious injuries. Admiral Akbar is in another fleet, so he doesn't die. Holdo is in command, and tells the resistance fleet the plan: Get to Crait and establish a base there, and try to board Snoke's ship and destroy the communications jammer so they can call for help. The resistance boards, and in the ensuing chaos, destroys the jammer, but with many losses. The resistance fleet gets to Crait, while Rey arrives (Luke arc stays unchanged). Snoke is killed, and the Praetorian Guard battle stays unchanged. But Rey and Kylo duel at the end because of difference in interests. As the resistance fleets tries to reach Crait, they get into range of the First Order fleet guns, and are taking damage. Leia evacuates the flagship, and Holdo does the kamikaze on the first order fleet. The fleet is mostly destroyed, but calls for help, and an even larger fleet of first order ships arrive. As the Resistance established base, the fleet commences a huge ground assault. As all hope seems lost, a huge resistance fleets arrives from hyperspace, and the two largest sized fleets battle each other. Rey escapes and assists with the Falcon. Kylo commands the first order forces. Despite the reinforcements, first order troops breach the resistance base, and Luke appears, apprehending Kylo. The resistance fleet lands troop drop ships, and evacuates ground forces, and the resistance fleet escapes. Luke's end is still the same, as he gives himself to the force. The resistance fleets rendezvous at Coruscant, and try to maintain order in the Galaxy. The outcome is similar to the actual movie, but the plot is way better.

tl;dr Rose is removed. Canto Bight is removed. More battles. Both sides aren't as ridiculously small as in the actual movie. Huge Resistance fleet answers Leia's call.

Well, not being the biggest star wars fan. I don't have anything to compare this to. I plan on going back and watching ALL of the previous movies before judging this one. But for me being a casual viewer.. I'd say it was pretty good, but I can also see why many fans are so upset.

I'm disappointed that Snoke didn't really fight or anything, this guy seen as a big bad sith lord or whatever and he doesn't even ignite a lightsaber.
I was hoping for more actual battles instead of running from the first order the whole movie (because they ran out of gas lmao).
    Leia can fly? lol

Was pretty good overall though I guess, just not what I thought it would be.

I was disappointed for one main reason, they didn't develop Snoke as a character at all...

I'm going to go more in-depth with my response when I'm able to access my computer but I don't think Snoke is dead at all. I believe he made a Force Hologram/Presence that imitated his commands and he wanted to see if Kylo was truly loyal. It would be the same thing Luke did while he "fought" Kylo later on (I don't think Kylo killed Luke, but he gave himself to the Force to become much stronger). I do believe that Snoke will be alive and as evil as ever in the next movie. I also don't think luke is going to be gone for long, and that he will have a big impact on Episode 9.

Every third person is force sensitive like wtf

Also Rose, smashing into Finn when he’s trying to make a noble sacrifice:
Unless he had that sweet plot armour he would be fucking dead.

Poe is an idiot. (OH NO, WE’RE FLEEING A SHIP THAT WILL RUN OUT OF FUEL AND WE WILL ALL DIE, HOPE MUST BE DEAD!!! REBELS ARE NOW COWARDS. REEEEE)

Luke dying is the most confusing thing I’ve yet to see. So what, his Illusion version of himself died? THEN HOW ARE YOU ALIVE AFTER A FUCKTON OF SHOTS AT YOU?!

Plasma dies, in the most retarded way. Convenient lift is convenient.

I am not ok with Rose surviving, I hate her

    Kylo is an edgelord

They kill Luke off but not Leia, I guess as a plot twist, but still kinda stupid

But whatevs, some cool moments still, and at least it’s not a total rip off like force awakens. 7/10

i am fairly upset with how much action they fit in vs how much lore they put in. it was incredibly hard to follow unfortunately and i would say it would have been better if they didn't try to fit so much shit into 1 movie and make 2 instead :what:

i still prefer Star Wars: TFA.

As I stated above, I don't think Snoke is dead. It would be the most illogical choice to kill off his character just like that. I have the biggest faith that he will be back for episode 9.

Luke's death hit me pretty hard but I know he will not be gone for long. I said this above as well but I don't think Kylo killed him. I believe that he was damaged by using the force projection and by kylo attacking his projection, but I think he knew it was finally time to give himself to the force to become one with it. I have no doubts that we won't see Luke in some way, shape or form, in Episode 9.

Finally knowing the reason Kylo turned was because Luke tried to kill him really shocked me. I never really expected Luke to become a scared, old man and attempt something like this before. But, I do think it shows that Luke was scarred by the events of ROTJ and he wanted to do anything in his power to prevent another tragedy by happening again. I don't think he had to do it by attempting to kill Ben, rather discuss it with him privately (perhaps a meditation session)? One thing I'd like to note is that I think Luke let his feelings get in the way of his thinking process just like Mace Windu did in Episode 3 when he was fighting Sidious. Windu originally wanted to put him under arrest but after seeing the power Sidious held and Anakin (someone he despised) ignore his warning and arrive at the office, his feelings pushed him over the edge of wanting to arrest the chancellor to plain out killing him. And due to that, a sith lord was born. See any similarities to Luke's situation when he attempted to kill Kylo?

Now, the movie itself (imo) was great. It told a good story and now that the rebels are outnumbered, they have to come from behind like the alliance did during the Empire of Emperor Sidious. I do feel though that they could've done things better. That actor, Del Toro, he was heavily rumored to be coming into the Star Wars franchise as a villain and seeing him appear as this code-breaker who has the ability to save or screw the rebels immediately made me remember those rumors. I was expecting him to turn on them ever since his character rescued him from that casino-planet (honestly, I have little to no care for that planet). I also believe that, although the rebels seemed in a horrible position at the end of the movie, that someone will come to the rescue (hopefully LANDO)

Leia using the force to survive space was alright. Not bad, but it just shows how far the character has come. I really don't understand all the hate, especially knowing that in Space there is no gravity so we have no way to prove that she has the ability to fly. I'm intrigued though that they kept Leia alive even though..we have sadly lost the actor almost one year ago to date. I know they will give Leia a proper sendoff though.

I didn't want Plasma to die, that's one of the things I disagree with. Another case just like Boba Fett , unless it somehow becomes canon that he escaped the sarlac. I doubt it, though. I don't think she was able to survive that explosion.

I understood some of Poe's decisions and I feel like it was well done, and well executed.
Overall, I liked this movie but didn't love it. It was well executed but just like any Star Wars movie (even the originals), it was not perfect. I do not think it deserves all the hate.

I had some very similar thoughts throughout as well.

Snokke isn't dead and I'm 90% sure of that. They showed off some new force abilities which we've never seen before from Snokke and he didn't even seem to have to strain at all to do those abilities compared to Palpatine who had to use lots of his energy to send force lightning in his battles, for example. I agree with this idea and I also tink that it is a force projection to test Kylo. I reckon he will return especially under J. J. Abrahms' direction as he was the one who created such big 'hype' for Snokke in the first place. If Rian Johnson was making episode 9, I wouldn't be so sure. Also I didn't like the contrast of power that was displayed, appearance wise from Snokke. He was a massive hologram in 7 and now in 8, he's wearing colours that aren't that daunting and he's kind of slouching in his 'throne'. I'd like to see more development of his character and I think they could take this a really good way by linking him to the Old Republic and making some stories about the old republic to be canon and then they could link a new spin off trilogy to it as well. I'd personally like Snokke to be a regenerated version of Plagueis which would explain why he is deformed but we'll just have to wait and see.

I like the comparison made here by @SantaSmg to rotj which was really interesting to read. It's interesting to think that even Mace Windu who wielded a purple lightsaber and could harness the powers of the light and dark had struggles with his emotions and in the end apparently died because of it. It seems to be a recurring concept.

I think Luke's 'death' was definitely expected but it also hit me quite hard. However I do expect him back as a force ghost hopefully with yoda at his side as well as obi wan. This unfortunately would make less sense now though as obi wan and yoda didn't teach Rey so why would they appear as ghosts to her.

The idea of lando returning is an interesting one. He could maybe lead the resistance after the loss of Leia due to Carrie Fisher passing. I think it's unclear how he may fit in or how Leia will go out.
Going on to the idea of Leia, I think they kept Leia here because there was still so much to tell of her character's story and killing her too early would ruin her character development.
As for her floating back from space, I think that was a very clever move. It showed the connection between this film and 5 where Leia's power are mentioned to also have been inside of her. I think this is a reference that her powers have grown and that she can use something like force shield to save her life is a very creative move.

My one issue with this film was the fact they killed off too many good characters, upon first thought at least. When I thought it over Snokke probably wasn't dead, Luke would come back as a force ghost but captain phasma was too soon. After having no screen time in 7 they don't develop her and then kill her. I think she should live as well to be honest, and they develop her more for the last instalment although I doubt this will happen.
Like Boba she had too little development but at least Boba might get his own spinoff, I doubt plasma will.

I also like the increase of development for Poe and I think that was strongly created and it did make an impact.

I also want to finally comment on Rey for a moment. First of all, I want her powers further explored. In an interview she claimed Rey to be more powerful than Windy but not Yoda which shows the extent of Rey's power and I want to see more of this. Also I am NOT going to accept Rey having unknown parents. I think that was a trick by Kylo which Rey went along with, so I hope for an answer to Rey's parents. Also to those saying Obi wan is her father, well think about it, Luke is old when she is young so when Luke was young and Obi San was about to die, Rey wouldn't have been born for many more years so I don't think the ages would work but I'm not sure here.

So overall I liked the movie although there were some flaws in it as there are with any movie. Personally I would like to see a new colour introduced in the next film like white or yellow or purple shown again would be nice.
