Mojang announced possible name changes in 1.7.6.. I'm glad that they have added this function (I hate my name with all my heart) but it's slightly confusing
ok, (story time) they said that they were going to add support for name changes not the actual feature, they are adding the feature once 1.8 is released and many people are playing it, this gives time for servers and plugins/Server shops to update to the current software that they will be using. (Don't ask me how I get this information, I just do)
