Recently, Devin610 got accepted as a Helper. Congratulations Devin! I don't see you on the server a WHOLE lot, but when I do see you, you seem like a very nice person! You deserved it! Now that we got that out of the way, lets talk about the sh*ts storm that is the staff applications forum. There's over 1,000 applications there, which may seem like a lot because it is a lot. But there is one problem that I've noticed. On almost EVERY application there is the occasional "Great app!" and "You should definitely be accepted!". There is also the post where mod asks questions to the person with the app, about moderator things. If they give a good answer, great! It's sent for review to other staff! But then most of the people applying never get a final word on their app. I think this is what gets some people mad. The people whose applications were sent on for further review, and are never looked at. And when they see other people accepted, they might say " Why are they accepted but not me?” Now- I’m not saying that the other staff don’t review it- I’m saying that most people don’t get a final word on their app. Maybe it’s kept in storage! If they are in need of staff, maybe they pull it out and promote the person. Who knows? I think that the problem is that people want closure. Was it denied? Accepted? Kept just in case something happens? Some people are impatient about it. Some people aren’t. Many people have been very patient and still have got no word. But in the mean time, just shut up about it. Stop saying things like “Why were THEY accepted and not ME?” That’s all I have to say for now.
Hey.. 05corma05, for example, made an app a long time ago. He didnt bump it or anything and he got accepted. Staff looks at the apps, but they dont need to give "the final word". Would you feel better without getting an answer, or getting a big [Denied] on your thread?
now, i remember a member of staff (i think it was homieboy) saying they are forwarding the good apps to higher members (roby, jerry, harry, saul, hai) and then they may keep them as you have said, but like finn said, would you prefer a denied label or a pending app? some people don't realise (not targeting anyone just to say) that there are 1,000's and jerry and harry have to pick 1 out of 1,000's so it is a big choice.
Yes, but what the point of this thread was was to show a possible explanation about why people are always jealous when an app that isn't theirs is accepted. That was what I was trying to explain.
As Finn said, some things are better left unsaid. There is a small chance of you getting accepted, and J&H know that people might not be active in the community or the server because they were denied. 1K apps is a lot. putting a Denied sticker on everyone will definantly harm the community
One thing I want to add. As you said above nick, some people are patient and others aren't. Those inpatient people don't realize that they might get denied because of their impatience. What this means is that they don't like J&H taking their time and that they want theirs to get a yes or no immediately. To those people, I want to say something. One is that how would you feel if people wanted their app to be denied/accepted right when you start looking at staff apps for your server with over 1k? You'll want to choose wisely since whoever gets staff has the safety of the server in their hands, and it's a bigger deal than you realize. Secondly, there are tons of applications that have put forth loads of effort into them that do want to get accepted, but haven't yet either because it wasn't enough or they didn't look at it yet. You gotta be patient with these kind of things, they're really big things that can and will take a huge impact on the society and community, no matter what. Finally to everyone, I have two things. One is that J&H are viewing staff applications in backwards chronological time. In other words, they're starting from November till now in March/April, so if you made one in February or March, it'll take a long time for them till they get to it. The other thing is that even if you don't get accepted, look forward to the future! There might be a time where J&H will be taking in staff applications once more! Bai-Bai
Uh I'm pretty sure you can't close your own threads xD But I don't see how this would turn into a drama thread? Well, my POV, staff looks at an app and has to do a LOT of considering. If they see the app is good, maybe they'll read through the content of the player's posts. Then, they see how the player behaves ingame. They have to consider a lot of factors. - What I think goes through their mind about a lot of people is maybe. They aren't terrible, but I don't know much about them so I should observe their behavior. Also, not just Jerry and Harry help decide. The staff consults with the other Mods and Helpers and staff to see whether the person is worthy of staff. So that's why people take so long to get feedback. Lila, for example, applied in November. She was patient, and even though she had no feedback, she still waited. A person who rage quits and gets mad after not receiving feedback for a week is immature. They have to observe your behavior if they see you have potential. If they see a great application, see them nice on the server a few times, they seem like a great user and decide to promote him. If it was that easy, you might end up finding that person you promoted has a temper and used it to punish people because of bias opinions. I hope this helps you understand it a little clearer :P ^_^
Here's my take on this: People are born with a natural desire for immediate gratification. In other words, they don't want to wait long times for things to happen. Yet they're able to, as it's common knowledge that patience is a virtue. But when they wait for ages and ages and ages for a response or answer to something, that nagging need for immediate gratification comes back. That is why people complain about not getting a response to their application, or why people get jealous over someone else getting an answer before they do. At the very least, a message of denial would HELP some people. They'd take it as a chance to better themselves and reapply at a later date. But since so few people even receive a final message, their impatience gets the better of them. If they get an answer, even if it's a "No", they'll likely feel satisfied, in my opinion. Save the whales, pugs not drugs, blahleblah.
This is my opinion. In my opinion I would rather have a big denied on my application rather than having no closure at all. This is because if I never got closure I would always be looking, checking, and hoping that my application would get accepted. I am a very patient person but I get frustrated when I get no closure. This is not about my application because I just applied today so I have a long while to wait. I'm saying this because I see so many applications with no closure and I think people would like it better with closure. This us all my own opinion so I don't know about others. Thanks
