I'm just not a fan of NASCAR tracks. Anyone can build a random oval in the middle of nowhere. Tracks like Sonoma and Watkins Glen are nice because they're actual tracks, not just ovals.
I think the original reason for the ovals was to maximise safety for the stock cars, mainly due to stock car racing being about your ability to plan a strategy to win. The track just us a place to do it, maybe most like a chess game, not about the board, just the strategy. Road track racing is about designing the car, that has the most efficiency. Like studying for a test so you can take what it throws at you
