Lack Of Staff

You criticized Xandalf for making assumptions when he isn't a part of the staff team anymore, but you're doing the same here by assuming he didn't bring it up while he was staff. In fact, Xandalf and I brought these issues to light during a staff meeting while we were staff.

 

So why are you publicizing these issues? Why aren't you bringing them up to higher ups privately if they are case scenarios?

 

Not only did my last post state that I brought it up during the meeting, which means the higher-ups would've been informed of the issue, but it's relevant to the topic. Again, you're making assumptions which is what you criticized Xandalf for.

I'm talking about now, when you're not a staff member again. If I'm not even talking to you, then why are you even replying? lol
In no means am I trying to criticize anyone, I'm just trying to see your side of the story.
If these issues really meant something to you and you felt that they needed to be fixed, you would be putting efforts into messaging higher ups even now rather than publicizing it and antagonizing the whole staff team for the actions of a few.

Take a look at how the server has changed over the years. Many of you do not know who I am. I am the legend, the myth:;: magical_sparklez. I became a mod in 2013 and my journey fell short in 2015. Back in those early days, staff were actually proud of the server and themselves for being a part of it. After a year of operation, the community grew exponentially and with this came various attitudes, opinions and intentions. The focus of the community shifted from being free spirited and relaxed to being political and correct. This is a game for god's sake. A good game is a simple game; one that doesn't have so many rules and expectations. The dark matter of this place grows as the community grows...kind of like global warming. The role of staff is to do their bit in cleaning up mess as they go. But, if everyone did their bit, our server and our community would be a lot more clean and peaceful.

Lack of encouragement?
The way the community has continuously been mentioning and debating these matters is putting it more so on the staff's to DO list rather than a WANT to do list.
I think the staff team would be better quality if we treated them with better quality.
We should be thankful for what we have because if we had the same (limited) amount of staff as we did in the beginning, God forbid the tragedy this place would be.

These threads always end up being negative. If you're going to talk about a negative, at least compliment it with a positive so that there is a balance. There are way worse servers. You guys just don't want to believe it.

Regardless, if we mention these kinds of topics and nothing is done to improve it...oh well. It's like how we didn't want Trump to win but he did so you have to live with it. Have you ever thought that maybe where the staff are at the moment is how Jerry and Harry want them? It's their server and their staff team after all. If you aren't satisfied...leave...because your negativity piles up with everyone else's and eventually pretty much no one enjoys this place.

If a staff member is ignoring you, actually report that member and not blame the ignoring thing on the whole staff team because a lot of them actually listen.

If you think reports should be done better, apply and motivate the rest of the team to do reports better or whatever. Make their work enjoyable.

Because this topic has repeatedly been brought up with no advancements, I think it's time it's put to rest. We are just going around in circles and the only thing that is changing is the way we are all feeling; more and more negative.

TL;DR
I just feel that the community are lacking a lot of things and...
this topic is useless to discuss as it has already been mentioned soooooo many times over the years and despite what Jerry and Harry improve, you guys are not grateful for it, ignore it, find something else to pin-point and are just never satisfied. So why push an idea to be improved, when you know you're never going to be satisfied with the end result anyways?

I've grown a new perspective now. I've always had a negative attitude towards this server and its operations. It's never been common for me to say anything thoughtful and positive for the staff team. But, you guys do great. I don't care if you've done a lot of work or only a small bit of work...at least you've done some work. Every bit counts, and sadly, it will never be enough for this community.

 

Good observation, I'm not staff anymore. However, this does not make my opinion invalid like you're making it out to be. I have a right to reply to you if you're talking to me or not. Especially when replying to a thread like this, you should expect people to disagree with you, so they express that. My side of the story is in this thread.

A lot of the things that have happened to Xandalf have also happened to me. Yes, I felt that these issues needed to be fixed so I brought them up at the staff meeting, so I could not only bring them up to higher-ups, but all the staff. Shedding light on an issue with some members of the staff team is not antagonizing the staff team, if I was antagonizing them I would mentioned their names, but I'm keeping them anonymous. As Sirius said, this should be taken as constructive criticizm, even though it may seem the other way.

 

I haven't bothered to bring up the recent issues to higher-ups because I don't particularly care about those individual cases.
However, bringing it up here, along with other issues people are bringing up might actually change something about how the staff team operates, rather than that individual staff member being talked to, which most likely wouldn't change anything anyway.

 

All I was waiting for was clarification so thank you for that. I see your point of view and the reasoning behind your actions.

If you have a problem with a staff member deliberately ignoring your reports, contact an admin or make a report here: http://itsjerryandharry.com/forums/staff-power-abuse-report-a-staff-member.78/

Chances are, the reason nothing seems to happen is because one of these three things:

• There are no staff members online
• All online staff are busy
• A staff member is responding to your report, but has hidden themselves. It's more common than you think for people to announce that a staff has arrived to handle their report, but this only causes the reported user to stop what they're doing.

We can't force staff members to come online and sit on servers they don't want to play. We've promoted several new staff in the past few weeks to alleviate this issue, but there's no way to cause it to go away 100%. We're promoting staff, not robots.

And no, automatic moderation is not a viable option due to the excessive amounts of false positives and missing actual positives it'll have.
