Question about homophobia

So, a friend of mine IRL says he doesn't aim any disrespect toward the LGBT community, but that he just doesn't like seeing two people of the same gender kissing or making out. We have some gay friends and he is pretty cool with them and doesn't bring up the subject of homosexuality (well, sometimes he does) but my question is,
does not approving of a gay relationship and disliking to see a gay couple kiss make him a homophobic person? Because he told me he doesn't want to be a homophobic person and that he didn't want hate or a bad reputation.

If he hates them as people just because they're gay, then yeah, if he just doesn't like homosexuality as a whole and not people who are gay then he's not

If he hates/dislikes it, hes not homophobic. Homophobic is being judgemental of the people based on if they are or are not. All he is doing is disagreeing with them on their choices. Nothing wrong with that, and he shouldnt be viewed as homophobic for that :)

Also, please if you have a disagreement with my feelings towards this, quote me on it. Dont make things get heated if it doesnt need to be.

 

If he is just uncomfortable with SEEING them kiss/make out, I think that is different. I get uncomfortable when I see any couples kissing. It's just weird to me.. But if it's ONLY seeing gay couples, then maybe he is a little homophobic, or maybe he just isn't comfortable with his own body.

 

tbh seeing two men or women kiss (at least in school) is kinda gross. I don't mind gay people just like, if you are gay to me then that's weird.

the definition of homophobia has dislike in it. i've experienced it first hand, it is not fun. i laugh when people say "i disagree with their choices" "i think being gay is weird" when it literally doesn't affect you. if it affects you, then please feel free to give a rational thought and explanation. someone being gay does nothing to anyone, its just a preference they're born with. (i use gay as an umbrella term for all sexualities) being gay isn't that big of a deal.

if you're fine watching straight people kiss in public but not gay people then yes it's homophobic.
It doesn't have anything to do with you just let people love who they wanna love and if they wanna show affection in public let them.

I myself dont like to see anyone gay or straight kiss because well its uncomfortable. I'll grow out of that phase, though.

 

As long as he doesn't affect others with his uncomfortableness I don't see a problem.
If he keeps it to himself, then it's his problem to deal with, and it isn't affecting anyone.
If you don't go out of your way to affect or hurt anyone, I don't care who thinks what. I have gay and bi friends. I have friends who were once iffy with those sexualaties due to personal beliefs.
Did those people go out of their way to attack gay or bi people? No.

As much as we need to allow gay/bi people the respect we give each other, the same must be given to religious people.
The minute they start acting like asshats tho, that's another story.

In short, homophobia SHOULD be being afraid of sexuality that differs from "the norm" (Heterosexuality technically is the norm however it is NOT abnormal to feel otherwise. The norm essentially refers to the natural mating sequence we follow).
Discrimination is the act of refusing rights based on sexuality.
We all have the right to express love in public (with common sense in mind), and receive criticism only where due.

Your friend is only homophobic if he has a legitimate fear of gay/bi people.
He is discriminatory if he goes out of his way to make gay/bi people feel uncomfortable

 

You made a thread asking the people of the LGBT community to answer your question, yet you mock one of their posts from the past before they get a chance to answer you. I don't understand the point of this thread.

 

That's common knowledge? I was just curious because Wolfy made it especially clear that he was bi, not gay.

Anyways, if someone doesn't like the lookof 2 men kissing, then that's their opinion. As long as they don't bother the couple or anyone about the kissing, then there really isn't a problem and I wouldn't consider it homophobic. But the moment that person asks a staff member to have the gays stop kissing or just tell the gays themselves, then that's homophobic and that guy turns into a big L.

 

I'm asking the people that are from the LGBT community, but people who can ignore other's opinions and not get annoyed by it. If it makes you feel better I edited the post out =/
