Why do people feel the need to do this?

So before starting this thread I just want to say
    1. I am 100% okay with the LGBT+ community and support everything they do
    2. If you are easily offended or if you are a person to start a flame war in the comments, click off of this now.
    3. I am looking for mature and civil opinions that may answer my questions.

Okay so I have noticed for some time a trend has started building in this community. One where people "Come out" and announce they are Gay, transgender, bisexual, etc. And great for them! Honestly, congrats on being honest with yourself and discovering your inner feelings. However why do you need to post it? Why does your sexuality have ANYTHING to do with playing Minecraft or life online. To be honest it doesn't. We are an online community so we won't ever have a real personal relationship with you. And yes I know there are some relationships on here but I mean actual romantic relationships that are more, physical, I guess you would say. I feel like people expressing their sexuality is promoting the exact opposite of what they want. They seem to want a world where gender and sexuality don't matter, yet by promoting the fact you are gay seems like it will change something about you, or the way you act, or your friends. Truth is, in my honest opinion, it shouldn't. And there isn't a need to announce it. I have nothing against it except that there are people out here on the internet who may not approve of your choices or may have different stances. And thats fine too, but it ends up bringing fights between people and ultimately brings drama to the forums. And by publicizing your sexuality you do open yourself up to bullies and hurtful words thrown your way from anonymous people. And the last problem I can see that may come of this, is people using it for attention. I am NOT saying that if you have come out then you did it for attention but what I am saying is that In the FUTURE people may use it as a source of attention. Many of these threads receive 50+ likes and great and encouraging comments from people, and thats great, people should comfort and support you. But this makes it easy for someone who wants to be popular on here and wants people to notice them to make a fake post claiming they are gay or what have you. Also I understand if you want to let your good friends know because you don't want to lie to them, and thats fine but I would say do that in private and not publicly on a thread. Now these are my opinions and I hope you guys can respect them and give your opinions in the comments, in a thoughtful manner. Please don't create any drama or flame on here, I am open for discussion but any provoking comments may be reported so please just be kind.

TL;DR - Why do people announce their sexuality on the forums?

Like you said towards the end, this is only your opinion. Others feel differently.
Why shouldn't people be able to share something about themselves just because it may make you uncomfortable? Yes, this is a Minecraft forum. But gender identification/sexuality/etc. isn't something that changes, this is a permanent part of their personality. Why shouldn't they be free to share it?

And I'm not even going to touch the 'lying for likes' comment

Before I came out to my family and friends, I thought it would be easier to tell you guys first. That's the main reason why I posted about it. I do see your points though.

I think it's because people feel comfortable here and they feel more open to express themselves vs. irl.

This community is actually a lot closer and accepting than it may seem at times, and you can't stop people from trusting each other's judgement more than irl or anywhere else because like you said, nobody knows each other well enough for there to be too much of an impact with an opinion. If they feel comfortable coming out to people they know step by step, there's nothing wrong with that.
I came out, probably over a year ago and people were very accepting. I'm glad that was the case, and to this day people still are, minus others who claim literally everything is attention seeking.

While that is my opinion, I see what you mean. I think there's nothing wrong with posting it here but if this is becoming a trend, which with all due respect it seems like the case, are people actually being truthful to themselves? You can't ever be sure if someone is being honest online, but it seems like a lot of people seem to be coming out. Who knows, maybe others are being inspired by each other, or maybe others are beginning to feel more comfortable with coming out here because others have been so accepting with each other. Or is it a trend that people are just following. You never really know, actually.

I personally don't know why coming out would be a trend, why would someone even want to pretend? It seems like a really weird idea, to me.

I also agree with the part where you said that it shouldn't change who you are if you post it on the forums, but maybe you have lied about it and you want to be truthful, or you just feel comfortable with letting people know/putting it out there.

It doesn't make me uncomfortable. I don't have a problem with it like I said. I'm just curious why someone's sexuality should change the way we play minecraft with them.

Clearly I came out as offensive to some of you and I apologize. I am trying to find the right words to say this. My main point is that sexuality really shouldn't be a big deal in this community, or gender. For example there are thousands of people on these forums and who follow different religions, but no one ever makes a post saying "By the way guys I'm Muslim," because it shouldn't matter if they are muslim or christian or atheist. They are still the same person. Same with race, no one ever feels the need to publicly announce on a thread what ethnic race they are. I understand feeling comfortable here and don't get me wrong I applaud anyone who is willing to come out. But is a thread really necessary? Why not just a status update or change your bio. I guess its because everyone assumes you are straight but in this community there are so many LGBT+ members that it isn't a minority. And we shouldn't treat it like one. Its normal to be gay and it doesn't change anything about you so why do I really care if you are gay or not.

I think they reveal they're gay bisexual transgender etc. is because it's so,etching they really want to get it off their chest and let it out.

So, I only have 2 things to say about each thing I'll quote:

    1. People who use sexuality as an insult haven't looked at the world around them.

    2. Why should you listen to the people who judge you because of your sexuality?

    1. Why do people think that you have to know someone irl to truly know them? You don't. Let's say that you meet one of your internet friends irl. Would you still be friends with them? Of course you would!

    2. Let's say you've known someone online for two years, and develop feelings for them. You decide to confess your feelings to them, and they confess back that they have the same feelings for you. You then develop a relationship with them, and you're dating them. So, now do you still think this?

You aren't dating them. Its impossible to date someone on minecraft. Online relationships are through pixels on a screen. And I am also talking about serious relationships, ones that happen way latter in life, not like the "relationships" a middle or high schooler might have but one that is much more passionate and physical. And trust me you do need to know someone in real life to truly know them. Its so easy for me to act like a 15 year old girl online when in reality I am a 60 year old man. The fact that people think you can actually have an online relationship is a joke. You can't see the person, or go on any dates with them or have any actual interactions with them. I mean sure you can think someone is nice on the forums and what not but you cant actually date anyone.

Okay, let's also say that you've video-chatted that person via Skype before. I mean video chat, not just voice chat, that way you have proof that they are who they say they actually are.

Even then the true passion that comes with love can't be felt. Having a relationship solely through the internet is impossible. Of course, you can have a 'relationship' with someone here, but it will not last forever, as you can't be with each other, so you can't express your love towards them directly. Your relationship will be built upon missing instead of on passion and true love, which is not a good foundation, because say for yourself: what would you enjoy more, getting a message saying how much your 'boy- / girlfriend' misses you, or expressing your love to your boy- / girlfriend directly by kissing and cuddling with them?

True love like it's felt in real life does not exist on a forum.

Okay, so now you're going to use one example in which it might be different, and that is supposed to make me change my mind? Not the case, as there are millions of examples of when it didn't work out.

If you're going to be mysterious about it, then no, I haven't heard of it, nor will I ever. Elaborate please.
