Warning, This is my fucking opinion. Don't get your bro army in a twist! Ehm, hi. So we have the most popular YouTuber in existance. PewDiePie that can't even spell his own name right. He mostly does gameplay videos. I watched one of those gameplay videos of his just to see why everyone enjoys him so damn much and well, I didn't find anything great about him. Sure there are montages that he makes and "Fridays with Pewds" that are actually enjoyable and fun to watch. They're edited, they're funny and overall good. But what's the difference between these two I showed you and his gameplay videos? Well, gameplay videos are boring. I'm not saying that all gameplay videos are boring. There's a gameplay channel called MessYourself and another one called GamingLemon. Those two are actually editing, trying to make the gameplay videos funny. I'm never bored watching their videos, but I barely made it through watching Pewds mortal kombat gameplay video. He doesn't edit it, doesn't make it funny at all and overall just plays the game. But instead of calmly play the game to see what the game is about, he keeps commenting during the video. MS and GL comment during the video too but when they do, it's actually funny, edited and not boring to watch. I sometimes hate it when people make let's plays, they comment during it. It's especially irritating in games that are fully story driven. Action games that's endurable, but when you want to know the game's storyline, like me, and jacksepticeye just interrupts the entire conversation by laughing at something stupid, it ruins it in every way possible! That's why I have respect for a YouTuber named Santosx07. He plays without commenting, he just plays to make you enjoy the story or whatever you enjoy in video games, without ruining it with stupid jokes like: "Well this bird has fucking lips" It's sad that the term "Let's play" is something bad to me now because as I said, there are some very well done gameplay videos that are edited or are enjoyable to watch. The only reason I'm not hating PewDiePie or Markiplier is because they're making montages that are actually very fun to watch. Instead of them just sitting there playing FNAF for 20 minutes, they cut it out to 5 of the best moments. So this is what I think of gameplay videos, do you think I'm right? Or you're part of the bro army and will hack my account simply to make me say "fuck you haters"? Anyway, tell me your opinion down below. Also, if you're going to make those let's plays, try to make them funny by editing. I hardly sit through one 15 minute long video where a guy just plays COD and shoots people. It's boring.
I'm not the biggest fan of lets plays either because I want to play the game myself, occasionally I will watch things like Fridays With PewDiePie or Reading ur comments (JackSepticEye) but not gameplay. personally I watch comedy skits liek Ryan Higa so... Yeah
I never watch gameplay videos on YouTube, not as much as I used to, anyway. I think they're all boring and there's no talent in them anymore and it's the same rehashed "hey guys minecraftdude7717 here doing another generic Minecraft lets play where I'm going to tell awful jokes and scream very loudly at simple things" type videos, and most of them use poor screen recorders or just hold iPads at their computer screen while they awkwardly play with one hand. Most of the time when I'm on YouTube I only use it to watch comedy skits and music videos/tutorials :/
That's all I do, I couldn't live without gameplay videos. Everyday i watch 2 hours worth of gameplay videos.
There is a marginal difference between a "gameplay" and a "let's play". A "let's play" consists of (usually) uncut, live commentary while playing a certain videogame. A "gameplay" however is (for example) what you see happening during a NFKRZ video or a Pyrocinical video etc. where the YouTuber just has it as filler rather than the screen just being completely black.
The only gameplay videos I accept, is a gameplay of a campaign of a game that I don't have, TheRadBrad makes videos of playing through campaigns on several games, so I can watch him play a campaign of a game I don't have or cannot get. One other kind of gameplay videos I accept are videos of a newly released game or game mode in a game. For example, videos of Doom's beta, as its new, and I want to see what it's like, another example is gameplay videos of Halo 5's new mode, Warzone Firefight. One last form I accept is videos of matches in the pro circuit. I follow the Halo pro circuit, so I watch matches of tournaments, such as the Halo Championship Series Season 2, where I literally have seen every match in the finals. I also like to watch 1v1s, such as two famed Halo pro players facing off, like Roy vs Lunchbox, Naded vs Flamesword, Snip3down vs Lethul, Walshy vs Strongside, OGRE 2 vs Pistola.
How are they shit? A shitty video is one recorded with someones phone with tons of background noise, and you can't tell whats going on. THAT IS SHIT. What these guys do is professional, high quality recordings which entertaint millions of people a month. You're talking a lot about editing, but what is so great about that? I don't watch the videos of Pewdiepie where he plays a game once and edits the video a lot I think those are his less funny videos. But his full game play videos are the good ones, he doesn't need to edit them to keep them interesting he keeps them interesting by being himself, not by adding some funny editing. A good example is Lirik. He is a twitch livestreamer and he has always 30,000 people watching. Does he edit his livestream? No, he is a interesting person so you can watch him for hours without being bored. I think that if you need to edit your videos to make them funny that you are not a funny person at all, I want to laugh at/with the person playing the game I don't want to laugh at some lame edits.
Some times its helpful to watch gameplay videos. I watched some of JackSepticEye's Undertale play through (genocide) because 1) I didn't want to do it since it's extremely difficult 2) I wanted to hear what the voices probably would sound like, since I just played on my own, blindly. And, God, did it help. Pewdiepie is a comedian. His gameplay videos are boring because you don't have all that much room to joke. The stuff you find can be funny, like glitches or Easter eggs, but overall the game is telling a story that you have to go by. Talking, routes, and actions are mostly predetermined, so you can't really be funny except for here and there.
