Hello everyone, Smg currently here, and today I have a lot on my mind, with recently coming on the server and seeing a wonderful new command has been added. Now, I am not in favor of this command, but that does not mean I will not use it in the future. These are just my thoughts, and please, if you disagree with anything I said, please state it in a nice and calm matter. Please do not initiate backlash on myself. Spoiler: My Thoughts Alright. by the introduction of this writing piece, I am not very fond of the new command that was recently added. If you have not heard of thus command, here it is. ./friend That’s basically it. When you input the command, you get a directory type of place to other commands, with a lot to learn. Now ever since exploring these commands, I have gathered around a “rant” as people today would call it, about thus command. I do not encourage you to read on, if you get mad easily. You have been warned. First things first, why..just why do we need a ./friends command? I feel as it is unnecessary for the server. Here are my reasons why. -People these days use the forums, use skype, use teamspeak, and use other types of social media. With access to those, it is very easy to find out if a friend of yours is currently available at the moment. Thus means that adding a command for this just thing, is really unnecessary to this day. Now you can argue my points that not everyone has these things, and that is true. But looking at the modern day, technology is encouraging the younger generation to take up these habits. Including as I said earlier, the forums/skype/teamspeak/social media in general. We honestly don’t need another “friend tracker”. -Exclusion. Yes the big one. When hearing about this thread, I am almost certain that most of you would know a type of this example would be written out about. Adding a new command like the ./friend one can cause a lot of more unnecessary exclusion. Now I don’t want to go off topic, but there is already enough exclusion around the server to think of. And adding a command like this could double that amount. Examples are people asking random people to be their friend in chat. Random person responds to saying something like a good old “no”. Now this could be taken as “mean” by some players, and be taken as “fuck you” by others. I am not saying all matters are usually like this, but most of the time with younger players, it is like this. Another example of an occurrence that could happen in the future is with a mini-game of some sort. A group of people all added in a ./friend group, are playing any type of mini-game. You name it. A player kindly asks to join thus friend group, with sending an invite to every member of the group. Now two things are most likely to occur. They either completely ignore the player, and the request itself, or they simply say “no” as I said earlier. Now, some people may not take this as exclusion. And I don’t want to go off topic, but by a certain point of view, this is exclusion. It does not seem like it, but stuff like this is unnecessary for the server. And I have not mentioned this earlier, but people tend to get sad when this happens to them. I have experienced it. Some may even be worse..in being depressed. Please don’t say I am over exaggerating this a little bit, because I am not. I have experienced exclusion from both sides, with being excluded myself, and being the one to exclude people, which I am not proud of. What I am saying here is with the ./friend command, tons of unnecessary hate/fights/rants could come. -Lastly, Spam. The big doozy. As most people have seen, the server tends to be spammed at times. And don’t get me wrong, Staff does a magnificent job in getting rid of this spam. Again, no over exaggeration. With the new ./friend command implemented, the chat could be spammed by double the power with sayings like “can you friend me” “who wants to be my friend” “please friend me please i am sad”, stuff like that. Especially the creative servers would be hit hard. The chat there is already spammed by role-play advertisers, and with the new ./friend spam, it could make even being there unbearable for some. This thread just involved my feelings about the new command. As I said earlier, I would really like to know your opinions on this as well. And again as I said earlier, if you oppose my feelings about this subject, please say in a nice and calmly manner. Thank You All -Smg
For your first point, you said that it's unnecessary? No it's not. There's nothing wrong with this and it's actually probably going to attract more players to the server since this was implemented. Your second point, you made a long text that could be shortened to say that you're scared that you'll be excluded. It's not bad for someone to say no if they don't want something. They can't be forced to friend someone they don't know? Technically if you don't know someone, you're not really friends. This shouldn't be a problem. Lastly, there could be spam for a lot of other commands and features in the server. There is so many more good things about this new feature than bad. Sorry if I sounded rude as it was not my intention. That's my opinion ^^.
Thank you for the feedback :) As for what you have said, here is my response. The reason I said this command was unnecessary was because of my first example. It clearly says how there are so many things to this day that people can use to find someone if they are online (etc), thus adding another way to do it, would be unnecessary, is what I meant. Yes, I am scared of being excluded. I admit it. Have been my whole life. I've been bullied many times, and still am. Irl I'm not popular either. And I did not say this in my thread, but I know it is not bad for someone to say "No". But what I meant was some players could take "No" as more then just a simple "No", resulting in chat conflict. And Yes, there can be spam in the servers for other commands as well. Edit: Receiving your feedback made me think a little, and I really honestly don't want to cause any hate. I don't even know why I posted this in the first place, I should have kept it to myself. Locking
