Okay, so I was sent this article by @Devin610 for my current event for history. I just feel like giving my opinion on it in a thread. You can as well if you want. Before you read, I am aware that this thread will most likely start some type of flame or something. I'll close it right away. If you have anything insultive to say, please click away. If you simply don't care, feel free to click away. If you have anything to say that you don't feel comfortable to say on the thread, you can privately message me. https://www.yahoo.com/health/students-protest-transgender-teen-39-s-1248252992708662.html I think that she should be able to change in whichever she feels comfortable in. She is a girl, and should be able to change in the girls restroom. Yes, she can use the gender neutral restroom but all that matters is that she is comfortable. It is her right. Quoting someone from the article. Personally I don't think this is right but it is that person's opinion. He is/She is/ They're allowed to have an opinion. You don't have to 'get the surgery' to be transgender. It's a struggle for me personally to choose which restroom to use, being gender non conforming. I'll be stared at, bullied, and laughed at. I normally don't use the restroom in public places such as malls and schools. I think there should be gender neutral restrooms at schools and other public places. It will take a while, and I'm very aware of that. Sorry that my opinion is so vague I guess. If you have any questions about the topic, please feel free to ask me C:
The fact that something like this would happen is a sole example of historical recurrence. This is exactly what happened with black people back in the day, as said in the article. I have absolutely no problem with transgenders, especially since they're definitely not bad people. I think if it's their will to use a womens' public restroom, womens' changing room, etc. then maybe they should have their rights.
I saw this on the news and felt so badly. Why can't people just accept and embrace each others differences dammit ._.
That's not exactly how things should work, she is a girl and should be able to use the girls changing room. It is her right. I mean, if that is what you think. That is okay.
The fact that the students are protesting is stupid. She (Lila Perry) is a girl, and she has to have the right to actually use the girl's bathroom/changing room. ??!??
Don't get me wrong, you are correct in a sense but it isn't really applicable to the point of the entire thread. The question asking wether or not you should select which bathroom to go into based on your Reproductive System or Urinary System is a deep question to consider. In the end, the fact that they are a different gender is not something people should have to judge others about, but rather should respect them for whichever bathroom they go into. It's her rights, so she should be able to go into the bathroom she feels she belongs in.
It is just going to the restroom, but she's a girl and has the right to use the restroom regardless of genitalia. People make it such a problem for others to use the restroom.
I think its ridiculous when that one other student said "putting on a dress and wig doesn't make her (Lila) transgender" since she didn't have surgery yet, when your gender really shouldn't be defined by your parts. Lila identifies as a girl and people should respect her for that. It's not like shes attracted to females anyways so I don't see how it would be weird for her to use the girls' bathroom from a cishet perspective, or at least it shouldn't be.
Tbh I don't support it, but I don't hate it, either. I am personally a bit disturbed by it for some reason but If they want to do it, then go ahead. It's not like it's affecting my life. But still, It's a bit harsh to disallow someone who is identified as a girl from entering the girls' bathroom.
I dont want to start a flame war. But its dumb. Why do you want to become girl when your a guy. Just ruining your life like that. So idk what to say
Some people just aren't happy with how they are born, and that's ok. And would you mind explaining how it's "just ruining your life"? I'm very curious about this statement lol :) Anyways I am full support for this person. I feel as if right now the world outside of LGBT+ needs to realize: "Hey, there is a huge group of people here that don't necessarily enjoy Man x Woman, or just don't like being their biological sex. Although I don't agree with it, they are still human, and deserve a respect that every human has."
There's this thing called "dysphoria", which means discomfort with your life. People have gender dysphoria, in which they are uncomfortable with their biological sex. Lila Perry has gender dysphoria, for she is MTF (transgender woman). She's not ruining her life, she is being the person she is and has always been.
It's sad that it seems like people ruin their life by making that decision. It shouldn't have to be viewed like that. Society shouldn't be such homophobes.
I just want to add onto what @BeatleMonkee said (which i 100% agree on) but Lila isn't a guy, she is a girl and always has been. Note that gender doesn't equal sex and appearance doesn't equal to gender either. It isn't 'ruining her life' either, and I don't understand how transitioning from male to female could.
I wasnt being homo phobic. Im alright with gays. Just what i meant of ruining life is destroying the purpose of having a family. But there is adoption. Im not hating. I didnt know about that mental disease either. I wouldnt say mental idk how to explain it. I dont want to start a war. Nor did i want to create hate. Just wanted to know a little bit more.
Lila isn't destroying her purpose at all, she just doesn't feel comfortable with her assigned gender. She is just like anyone else, she is being herself. Of what others said to you above, they didn't call you a homophobe at all. This has nothing to do with homosexuals. Lila has always been a girl, just trapped in the wrong body. As Sera said above, she has dysphoria; knowing from experience, it's not fun. There's so many struggles that these people have to go through on a daily basis just to live. I still don't understand what you meant by "Ruining her life"; would you mind explaining that bit more for me?
