well i've been wanting mods in my game ever since i got it, but the real problem is i can not at all install them successfully, the only mod i have installed properly is the too many items mod, but i want more. i've tried mc patcher, doesn't work & i've also tried magiclauncher, also doesn't work. so i was wondering if there are any other easier ways to install mods without having to fiddle with the jar. files. -EDIT- BTW I have a windows 7 computer
I use Forge. It works for both mac and Windows (mac ftw) Anyway, download the installer. You double click and it installs all of the components for you. Vey Helpful. Much Greatness. After that, launch your game and youll see 3 mods installed. Those are the configure mods or whatever. Dont fondle those. Next, choose your mod of choice. This is probably the hardest part in this whole tutorial thingy. Mac Tutorial: 1:Go to go in finder. 2:Hold option and go to library. 3:Go to application support. 4: Go to Minecraft. 5: Click the Mods folder that Forge has installed for you. It has a capital M. (If you have one that you manually made before you installed forge, delete the manually made one :P) 6:Put the mod of choice in the Forge Folder. 7: Go freaking Crazy. Windows Tutorial: (I dont have windows, but ill try my best :P) 1: Open up run. 2:Type in %appdata%. 3:Click Roaming. 4:Click the .minecraft folder. 5:Do the same thing for mac. 6:Go freaking Crazy. Hope this helped. -Chicken :D
Forge. Definately Forge. One Mod I have downloaded with Forge is the Animated Players Mod (Loved it :p) ***DO NOT DOWNLOAD WINRAR. I INSTALLED IT BEFORE AND SERIOUSLY, I HAD TO GET MY COMPUTER FIXED OVER IT***
It's so easy to fix that problem. Just right click, and click "Open With". After that, chose Java, and yeah.
Wew ok it's up to me again.. Basics of modding: First of all understanding the modding process is step1. So if you start going into this it's mostly required to understand that modding your minecraft is trial/error thing. Without efford you may have no success. Also if you mod your game you don't have support from mojang if you corrupt your world or anything else goes wrong by a badly coded mod. Getting the prerequisites: Before you start modding you should download some tools you will need in the future. However we need this sometimes to edit some files or unpack something. 7zip: notepad++ http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7z920.exe http://download.tuxfamily.org/notepadplus/6.5.3/npp.6.5.3.Installer.exe Get an ModAPI/Forge: For the start it's easier to have forge then messing with jar files. So before installing forge you need to get a clean copy(will show later). So this means before messing with your vanilla minecraft reinstall the right version. This fixing major issues when you already tryed to install something or your minecraft directory is pwned by a virus or whatever happend. Ok now install Forge Step by Step: First download the latest forge. This is the one-and-only forge site. http://www.minecraftforge.net/forum/index.php?action=files Anything else is a scam. Make sure you download the Installer-Win build. See pic for more details. Then place the file you got on your desktop. Now it's time to make a clean copy: Press Winkey + R then type %appdata% Press Enter. You will now spot your .minecraft root directory. Go in there and delete everything but not resourcepacks and saves. These are important files you may have your texturepack and played worlds stored in ;) Now start your launcher. Login and click on edit profile. In versions select 1.7.2 as we need this one for now because there is no 1.7.4 forge yet. Now run minecraft 1.7.2 once. (It could take some time to start) Install Forge: Rightclick the forge installer file on your desktop and run it as admin. After that go to your launcher and select Forge in your Profiles dropdown. Then start it. You should get this. Grats. Forge is installed. :D Makeing part 2 asap. Just to keep it tidy.
Installing Mods: Whenever you now want to install mods only download them from trusted sites. Trusted sites: http://www.planetminecraft.com/ http://www.minecraftforum.net/ http://minecraft.curseforge.com/mc-mods/ -How to easy spot trusted sites- 1. Whenever it's good there is a forum about it! That's one main point you can look for. 2. Trusted mods comes with an installer guide. 3. The autor does have an account or any other way to contact her/him. 4. Do not download stuff under youtube videos. If you must do this read the comments. 5. Do not follow direct links to mediafire or any filehoster without a description given what these files do. 6. Do not run anything exported from griefing clients. (-.-) Hudzuni *cough* Notbad *cough* Okay.. Sorry but this was needed for your safety. Moving files: Ok to install mods you open your minecraft directory again and simple place them in the mods folder. Type Winkey + R then %appdata% Enter The right location is AppData/Roaming/.minecraft/mods Here is a modpack I made with common mods: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4YfaOe8BcdbeUVNdHJOci1WbHM/edit?usp=sharing (To download press Ctrl + S if it don't start alone) Optifine Shadermodcore ported to 1.7.2 from me Voxelmap <3 Open it with 7zip and place the files in mods folder. Starting modified Client: Then start your Forge Minecraft. The mods should have been loaded with the game. Then go to settings and slow your render distance to 6 for the first start. Stuck on 60fps? Setting OF up: Now jump back to your .minecraft bin. There should be a file called options.txt. Open it with notepad++ Then go to line 29. Rename enableVsync:true to enableVsync:false Now u have unlocked the full fps of can deliever you. Installing Shaderpacks for Shadermod: Open your game Go to Options -> Shaders Then click on Open shaderpack folder. Move the shaderpack.zip's you want to run in this folder Directory is /AppData/Roaming/.minecraft/shaderpacks I have included 2 packs in the attached files RudoPlay for Shuffle and HighPerfShader if you run a slow pc. Just select one and play a world. You should see beefy shaders :D If shaders are lagging you just select None. Or delete the ShaderCore from your mods folder.
Dedicated to helping right there. There is NO way I could do this. Good job dude. (Take his advice but think about what I said about not installing Winrar (SERIOUSLY. DO. NOT. DO. IT)
