You make a good point, but that's not what I meant. The server took 3 years to attract 2.5k people a day. So basically, that 5 more years to grow to a 15k people on average. Also, I am a pretty experienced and skilled Bukkit Coder.
Minecraft is already on its way out, but that's besides the point. I do like your ideas though so +1 from me!
The key is by trying to draw other players in. Since we cannot control what other peoples opinions or what other people will do, we unfortunately cannot do everything to try and get them in. We can only do this by changing our ways, and if this come contrary to your sentiments, then I'm not going to argue with you over that. We start by changing our plugins, revamping most of the traditional games except for a few (E.G. Factions), Adding more mini-games which would be considered original and would draw players who are tired of seeing the same exact thing over and over again, etc. There is also another suggestion, as @Perceisha, but I don't know what it is. Like I said, Quantity comes from Quality. The better the server suits for the "larger" audience, the more players there will be.
How will I expand the server? Well I cant do it alone. This is a team effort that a large portion of the community would have to take part in to make it work. We are all a community, no? So lets work as a community to grow as a community.
Undecided I honestly see players join the server and the forums every day. But i do agree our server does need a bit more popularity as i dont really see a lot of people come on anymore. like Youtubers and other forums members because the community has either gotten boring to them or there isnt much to do on the server. I fear that if we expand the community too much with how small the staff team is, there would be a LOT of chaos. Kind of like Mineplex and Hypixel, they are HUGE servers, and if we have a Extremely large community on the forums, it would be very overwhelming to us considering how theirs not many staff. :p So i remain undecided until we really get some word on what to do. because i really dont want the IJAH community to become huge and uncontrollable like Hypixel.
I like the idea of expanding the server, but at the same time I love the feel of a smaller server that has a decent community. but don't forget, even servers like Hypixel and Mineplex do have communities, even if it doesn't seem like it. I agree its been getting rather repetitive and boring lately, but at the same time, a smaller server/community is easier and less stressful to function in. Undecided.
I joined this server when it was small and I played here because it was small. Honestly I prefer how it was back then. It was just easier.
Due to the 21-12 polling, I have released a Gameplan suggestion for us to grow. You can view it Here.
If people were more open-minded there'd be more people you notice. Some people are pushed away, like non-donators. Anyways, I think the idea of expanding the server is a great one. Agreed.
One thing though... One does not simply just "expand". I'm sure if any server owner could expand their server and income with a snap of their fingers, they would without a doubt. Usually you expand when the player base is increasing and there is a need to accommodate for that increase. However, looking at the server popularity a few years ago compared to now, it's pretty obvious it has declined, which is the opposite of what is usually required for expansion. I see your point in trying to up our server "quality" in hopes of getting new players to join this server, but in my opinion I don't see it working very effectively for this specific situation. In regards to the forum population; I find our community's infrastructure tends to repel people away rather than draw people in, because of this pecking-order system people subconsciously use(donator > non-donator, old member > new member). I see a lot of people comparing this server to Hypixel and their successes, which is quite ironic when I see them disagreeing with suggestions that coincide with Hypixel's ideals(ie. no swearing, heavily moderated forums, traditional helpers, etc). It's not that I support a small community(rather dislike it tbh); it's just that I just don't see this working out unless there's a big change in community behaviour, which seems highly unlikely.
People should just stop saying "attracting youtubers". Youtubers are paid to play on servers. That would cost a lot for the community to expand. Anyways sure, more members means more cool people and more potential staff. Im all for the idea.
With all of the people talking about "having a small community is better", and "quality over quantity." Which are fine opinions but here is what I think is a tad bit wrong. Yes small community's are better, but when you think of it as a whole, it wouldn't benefit the server as much as having a larger community. Its not like the people on the forums today will be completely hidden If there was a larger community. About the build team (I'm mainly focusing on this one because it's close to me.) It would IMO work very well. Whether it is just a group of people that sometimes get together to make a spawn or map or be a full fledged build team with recruiting ranks and a separate server is up to Jerry, Harry, Willy, Goojingo and Vexodius. I'm ready for a change how much of a change is uncertain at this point. Agreed and Undecided's child.
Hypixel is Hypixel. You can't make comparisments like that. And you can't say server will have 15k users in 5 years, it doesn't work like that. Think of this state as a generation. Eventually, this generation will get tired and quit because they will simply lose interest. And less and less people will join because, let's be real, minecraft is past it's peak. Minecraft is a game, not a way of life.
Yeah, back then it was nice.... Then came factions.... Then came me with EFDF and ETL..... I feel semi responsible for ruining a portion of the community that was remaining.....
