So, I have been working on quite the suggestion. But before I do, I want to know what the community thinks. Should we expand? Should we focus on making our forums, TS, and server more populated? Obvious monetary pluses are obvious, so I'm not going to go over them. But lets look at Hypixel. Now let's look at their YT. They don't even have 1/2 a million subs. And we already know we have over 1 million now, so why don't we have practically double the population? Well, 2 reasons. 1 of them is our staff team. Not just the moderation team but the working team. Now, I'm not saying we should be overclocking our build team or overclock our owners, but instead I'm saying we should be looking for more people willing to build, willing to code, willing to work for the community. Now, you may argue that those people don't exist here, and that's why say we should work on expanding and growing our population. More people = more chance of skilled people. See where I'm getting at? Now, the 2nd reason why Hypixel has more people than us is what my suggestion is going to be about, so I'm not going to spoil it :3 Anyways, what do you guys think? Do you like the idea of expanding, or should we stay a small community and small server? EDIT: Oh yeah I nearly forgot to add that Hypixel has ~15k on average and we only have ~1k on average in population.
Yes, but there's only 1 issue: Staff. If we were to add 1.5/1 more person on the server, that would be about 3-3.5K people on at once. That means for every player, there would have to be at least .1 staff on in my opinion. This makes no sense so i'll put it this way: 100 people - 1 staff. That is the average in my opinion, because we are extrememely dramatic, and a flame war happens all the time. With 3-3.5K on at once, that means ou whole staff team would have to be on at once to have the average help.
Honestly I really don't know. I really like this community because it's so easy to talk to people and get help unlike Hypixel which is chaos, lag and hackers all day and the only thing that the staff does is just screw around.
I'm a bit confused by this statement. Do you mean "If we add 1.5-1k additional people"? Even then. If we do add that many, we would obviously grow our moderation team.
I think if we were to expand that they would need to add more staff members to the server as well. Having 30(?) staff members and 3k players isn't something that'll be easy to keep track of. So, I agree entirely, but I also think staff should be expanded with the player count too.
I think we can start with 2 things: The first is focusing on bettering the server in means of maps, lobbies, & Plugins. The 2nd is my suggestion. If people think we should expand, I'll release my suggestion. I don't know about you guys, but I'm tired of the same thing every day. I'm tired of doing nothing all day. And it's not like we don't have the man-power to grow.
I like the close knit community where everyone is helpful and willing to talk and make friends, whereas if you had a big server you could make a friend one day and never see them again forever
Well, it's not like you can't make friends that you keep. If that was the situation then we wouldn't even have constant friends to talk to in the first place :P
The idea of expanding population is what a lot of community members from here have had in mind for quite some time. You may disagree with me all you like, as this is only my own opinion. Quantity comes from Quality. Hypixel and Mineplex do have a lot of players due to what they do. It's not just all of the "traditional" stuff they do. It's all either Unique or different versions of the traditional stuff in which everyone enjoys. It's sort of like the more creative musicians will get more followers then the ones who don't have any originality to any of their songs. With ItsJerryandHarry being centered in traditional Mini-games (Survival Games, Spleef, Survival, Factions, Creative, etc), there is a lack of originality to the server. Our only original games we have would have to be OITC, Buildit, Herobrines Chamber, CraftRoulette, and MineFighter. We do in fact have more Traditional games then Original Games. What happens is people get tired of seeing the same thing over and over again, and so they want something different. I believe that adding more originality to the server would benefit our population. Also, it's a known fact that we cannot force people to play on our server, as they are allowed to join any server they want and are allowed to judge a server based on what it looks like. Though I am sure you pretty much know that.
Exactly. That's a big part. Traditional games are always nice, but we don't have anything to spice it up. Let's take a look at SG. Mineplex & Hypixel don't have GP, And while Mineplex has team SG, Hypixel allows you to unlock a special move with the Blitz Star. These are things that attract new players. Now, again, I don't want to overclock our management team, but we need more people on the dev teams. I mean, I remember @ItsHarry always saying that "We don't need more programmers" and whatnot. Well it's clear that we need more than just 2 adolescents that program to grow.
I think expanding is a cool idea, but like @Poppy830 said, it's difficult with the lack of staff, and if you check the applications section of these forums now and then like I do, then you know that there's simply not enough qualified people applying for staff. Also, we should consider what impact this would have on the different worlds of J&H. We have some really popular minigames already (and some not so popular ones, so expansion in this view is good) and also a hub that makes me lag sometimes. I'm undecided on this, so I'm just asking yall to consider the impact of expansion because it may not necessarily be for the better, especially since we only have one hub. As for if we should change/add minigames on this server, that is a different suggestion to be submitted to the forums. TL;DR: I like the idea, but how feasible is it?
The community is hardly "close-knit." What it once was died long ago. It's in a weird combination of people that know each other and people that don't. In other words, we're neither a small community nor a big one at this point. There's no way to make us smaller - that time has long since passed. The only option (and the only beneficial one at that) is to make it bigger.
The goals of the server are to grow and be successful, helping the owners personally, but is also supposed to be beneficial to the players, i.e have fun, meet new people, make friends, etc. But, you can't force the growth of a community. I am pretty sure they are up to their knees in work already. They are always trying to expand the community because that's the sensible thing to do to become a top notch server. But rapidly trying to expand the population of the server with new mini games that attract new players, can also omit quality in the mini games as well as in the people in the community. What I mean by that, is the faster more players join the server, the more hackers, and players with bad intentions you will get. Well, the solution is simple, hire more staff. Now, I don't wish to disclose my position on the amount of staff and what to do about it right at the moment, but I will disclose the fact that they are working on it, but they need to make sure they are hiring the correct people. They don't need to hire more people to code, because they want their server to be solely custom, and that's what people love about ijah. I doubt that harry is working on a new game right now because if he was, they would most likely say something on twitter, and then allow ranks to beta test, or whatever process they go through when developing new additions. My stance on this: Well, I don't think they would accept a player who joined the server a week earlier. Anybody can make an application, but as @RockoR said, the application is like a hello, and your time in-game and on the forums is what turns the tide. All of this was my opinion, so I don't want to cause any arguments.
By looking at this post and thinking about it I think we should expand we should get some more members we should get more minigames because that old community s long dead now so let's expand @Perceisha and @Yomc
Ofcourse not, I dont expect us to instantly grow, that's impossible. If the owners actually looked at the community and put job offers or something, then they can see if they can actually get some assistance from people in the community. I know quite a few people in the community that can/are learning to code. 3 are @Arthurr, @Wolf, and @_Harold. That is 3 right off the bat. Imagine how many people would send in resumes if J&H started putting out volunteer openings. Quite a bit. My point is, ofcourse we can't grow today or tomorrow, but if we all work together, if the owners take the first step, there is no doubt the community would follow. Also, a final note, just remember that I am not suggesting anything yet. This is all just talk and I want to know & discuss the community's standpoints on expansion and work.
Perc of were going to expand shouldn't we try to get more people on the server by getting more gamers and MC devolopers to stream and make videos on it? I mean one of the few reasons that Hypixel is so popular is because it has so many appealing minigames that gamers love
Well, I guess, but even then, what's here to attract Youtubers? Nothing. No events, no special minigames worth recording. I think the last time we had a Youtuber was Jerome, who was here a few weeks ago. That's it. I believe we should be severely focusing on getting more people into the development of minigames and ideas. That way we can attract more Youtubers here, thus attracting more people. At the same time though we should be focusing on bringing the public here aswell, though. Not just Youtubers.
