Is the ELO system a better way to solve the problems?

Recently, ItsJerryandHarry released a new update for One In The Chamber, which includes 8 new maps and the new ranking system: the ELO. A lot of people might think that this system will provide a much fairer experience to everyone, but is that really the case?

    ELO Introduction

In case you don't know what the ELO system is, here's a short introduction of it.
The ELO rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players, originally made for Chess. Basically, everyone has a certain amount of ELO. Everyone starts off with 1200. This would mean you are an average player. Winning or losing will grant or deduct ELO.

Here comes the cool part. If you win against someone who is much better, let's say 1600 ELO, you will gain +24 ELO. However, if you lose against him, you will only lose -8 ELO. This means that you gain or lose points based on the skill level of your opponents. If you are really good at OITC, you will climb the rankings, if you're not that great you will drop. This will give a fairer ranking system than the current one, where it was purely based on how much you play instead of showing how good you actually are.

As stated above, people believe that it will give a fairer ranking system than the EXP one, is that true?
Hmm... no. I have a few reasons for my arguement.

    1. Killstealing and Spawnkilling

First of all, if you want to gain ELO, you'll have to get more kills than deaths as the basic requirement. As far as we know, we can either kill players by using PvP Skills or using methods like Killstealing and Spawnkilling.
The latter is obviously a much easier way to gain kills, as it doesn't require any skill. As a result, people will try to killsteal and spawnkill even more to boost their ELO and their rankings, which isn't any fun at all. Isn't this new update actually encouraging more people to use these cheap methods, rather than fighting legitimately? This means that the ELO cannot determine a player's true strength. For example, Killstealers gets much more ELO than those who actually fought using PvP Skills, would you admit that the killstealers have more skills due to their high ELO? Would you admit that they actually have more skill?
Also, when players get killstealed or spawnkilled, they will get desperate of restoring their ELO, and so they will start using these methods as well. In the end, this update only has worsened the problem of killstealing and spawnkilling, which is the exact opposite of regaining the 'spark that OITC once had'.

    2. Hackers

This update actually attracts more hackers to come play because of the new ELO system introduced. Most of the players cannot record them due to not having a beefy computer, in this case, informing moderators about them would be the best idea to solve hacker problems. However, just like I said, there are barely any moderators online in certain time zones, or even the whole day. Hackers then can grab this opportunity to use hack clients without any of the staff noticing. Also, this produces a problem about when your ELO gets screwed up because of hackers, its actually very hard for the moderators to help you retrieve them accordingly at a suitable amount.

This update did not improve almost anything, except for the 8 new maps being added, which I do appreciate.
But it didn't reignite the spark of the OITC we once had,it only made it more impossible to be relighted.

Feel free to give your opinions about the new ELO system down below! :D

P.S : 10 Chapters of my SG Comic will be released tomorrow! Sorry for making you wait!

I agree with the basic ideas presented in this thread, except the ELO system will also single out hackers for reporting and therefore provide easy bans to staff. Otherwise, I have definitely noticed an increase in spawnkills and killsteals.

I have actually been playing OITC more often since the ELO system was introduce, and haven't noticed an increase in spawnkill since your spawnpoint is at a different location each time ( except one user who happened to spawn kill me within seconds of my respawn ). I personally like the ELO system, but as for hackers, whether there was ELO or not, hackers are still hard to catch because of the evidence needed to prove their hacking and there were still a fair amount hackers in OITC (and other servers) before ELO was implemented, so I don't think ELO is the cause of these hackers, but I sort of see where you are coming from

    1. Killstealing is part of the game, the whole purpose of the game is to get 20 kills. If you get killstolen it means you lack awareness and should learn when and when not to fight someone. Spawnkilling is an issue, but even without the new system people are still going to use it.

    2. Hackers already exist, people aren't going to start hacking because this is introduced. Elo is just an alternative ranking system that is based more off of your wins. If you see more hackers than maybe more players are starting to be on OITC; there is bound to be more hackers if there are more players.
