I felt the need to make this thread after reading all the drama threads from old times.


I really think people need to recognize that most of the work the staff do is not fun nor easy.
I have realized the staff work their butts off making the experience better for others and that comes highly unrecognized. Now I understand why staff"s work is mostly unrecognized, people find it as them just doing their jobs.
Well that may be true but what people don't understand is being staff isn't as fun as many others think.
Most people who apply for staff come under an assumption that it's going to be fun! Yay, helper! Now sometimes you may be able to have fun as a staff member but most of your work isn't.

So what I'm requesting from others in that you take into consideration that the staff work their hardest.
The whole server isn't revolved around you, your needs aren't always the servers number 1 priority. Making a riot over a Faction's reset doesn't do anything!
All I'm really trying to say is that you should start recognizing the staff's work a little more.

Now knowing these forums someone will find a way to turn this into a flame war.
So try not to do that. If any type or drama appears I'll close this thread in a heartbeat.

 

I think most people recognize how hard staff work to make this server function correctly, but I do not believe that they all understand how much work is put into being staff. Staff members are able to have fun at times, just not all the time.

 

Actually, a lot of the work is quite fun.
Maybe not when people get angry at you, but there's less of that than there is fun work c:

 

Something I realized after I was promoted was that you will be heavily criticized for doing your job.

But most of the time yeah its really fun except when

 

one of the biggest reasons why I wanted to be denied in my staff app.

 

Staffs gets hated all the time, but people should really know that maybe upsetting one people will improve the whole server. Staffs are just like us, they can be stresses and under pressure. Flame wars over things will not make anything better. But ofc, staff is fun C=. I was one on my friend's server, and I understands.

 

When I was staff on a full server with 800+ players at a time I had a blast, even though it was very tough and stressful at times, I just loved helping people and when you love helping people it turns out being a great thing to do!

 

Yep, we shouldn't underestimate the staff team we have.

I personally haven't experienced any hate towards me, except for one guy who didn't like me moving and locking threads.

Surprisingly enough, I wasn't hated somehow. (Not that other staff gets hated or something btw)

 

Staff are real great people they really. Even the retired staff (such as Kris). I've experienced being staff on a couple of servers and as Mappy said, lots of the work is fun. I was staff on smaller servers so I never really knew how it felt to be a staff member with a community this big.

Lots of people who apply for staff (lots not all) know the responsibility of being a staff member. Those people are now currently staff, have been staff or, are being looked at to become staff.

The staff team is great. I love every single one of you guys and keep doing what you do.

I feel as if a lot of people want staff because they think they'll be popular and whatnot.

This is literally bullshit. If you're applying to be a staff member, you need to be prepared to work. And, in many cases, you can do so much more as a good community member. Because as a community member, you can choose your own resolve. While all staff can do is solve problems and play nice, you as a community member can push the boundaries of what the community sees and make a difference. Such as how right now there is heavy discrimination against Weeaboos and fanboys, you can be that person which stands up for the minorities. There can always be more heroes, and as a staff member you really can't do some of this stuff because you gotta act a certain way so players(new ones, especially) dont get the wrong idea of how to act.

And this quote is so true, because with just a tiny bit of power from the Helper rank, you are given so much responsibility. From handling reports to field work to even acting accordingly, There is so much more to staff than being a help. Because honestly, you can be a big help as a member. As a member you can report people, start new trends, new ideas, and make this place of our great. We have report buttons and sections for a reason, so why does only a fraction of people use it?

So true. On one of the servers I was staff on, some guy made a really good application and got accepted. He didn't do his job. All he did was sit in the hub and talk to people about him being helper. He just wanted to be popular. He got demoted a couple weeks after he got accepted. He then made another application about two montha later saying that he his sorry about what happened last time and he his ready to work. He got tons of support becuase he was staff last time. He didn't get accepted again.

Some people think that popularity is the key to get accepted. That's not true at all. @Masterchief07 only had 3 comments on his application before he got accepted. To get accepted, he probably helped out around the community as often as he could. He is a great and wonderful helper now. :)

I'd like to begin my post with an exert from a poem.
"...if you don't want to work you have to work to earn enough money so that you won't have to work."
This is what I see many members think; they want to become staff to show some worth and popularity, but they don't want to do the actual job properly. But, they are so desperate. So, they work really hard to get promoted and once promoted they slack off. This is one reason why promotions are risky business for administrators. It's not that easy to know if players are actually going to do their job after promotion.

Back when I joined some years ago, I thought being a staff member made you popular. I was completely wrong. I was new to all the multiplayer Minecraft jazz and so many of my assumptions were wrong. I saw many people pretty much worshipped staff, and I didn't see what was so different about them. They are just like anyone else, but they have more authority and control.

From my experience of becoming and being a staff member, I've experience a heap of ups and downs. I lost a lot of my friends in my first weeks after promotion because I dedicated myself more to helping out the community than spending time with them. I knew what it was like to have people being rude to you and needing a staff member, or, being scammed and becoming slightly upset. I wanted to pretty much give myself to those who really needed me.

I like getting to meet new people from different kinds of areas in the network. No matter what, you'll have to deal with a troll or ungrateful kid eventually. I didn't go through applications, or helper. I didn't have a lot of competition. At the end of the day, I'm happy to be of service to this community :)

He has right to his own opinion as much as you do. You made the thread with the risk that someone would give an opinion like that. So it's best if you ignore those types of comments.

I'm a little to worried about what others think.

Staff starts out fun as heck but after it becomes a daily routine it loses it. You have to really manage your time on the server with irl activities or other video games/servers, because spending 7 hours a day as staff answering questions WILL get old. Thats why I took a break over on omega. Ive learned from those mistakes though and to this day its still fun after 6 months.

It also gets extremely boring when you have limited power and such. Helper rank is probably the hardest rank you can get on here, because its almost the same as a normal member but with 20x more expectations on doing work. Most people think it gets harder as time goes on, which is partly true in a way as you get more responsibilities, but if you balance it out with freedom you can get better results than when you were a helper or lower. Though when you first become staff it feels all new and shiny.

I know I may sound cocky flashing that im staff on omega or whatever you want to think, but in the end im just tryin to help.
