What's so cool about anime?

I have noticed that like 75% of all avatars are from Anime things. I am very unfamiliar with Anime, so all of the avatars look the same to me. Though it's not really on the top of my interests, I'd like to get to know it.

A real-life friend of mine introduced me to Death Note, and that storyline looked very cool to me, but I never had the time to watch it.

So my question is: what's so cool about Anime and what are very cool storylines?

Maybe I'll even have an Anime avatar within a few days..

 

tbh anime needs to be destroyed

Only a few animes are actually good, e.g. Tokyo Ghoul, Shingeki no Kyojin ((YES, SNK IS GOOD, WHO CARES IF IT'S MAINSTREAM)) etc etc.
Like 90% of animes are with high school girls that look like they're 9 while they have way too sexy bodies, high pitched voices and cliche plots that will make you scream eventually.

Newsflash people: 18 years old Japanese girls don't look like they're 8 years old, don't wear skirts that show half of their panties and don't act "kawaii" all the time.

Also the fanbase is just... no. People thinking they know so much about Japan while the only words they know in Japanese are probably Kawaii, Desu, Sugoi and Itadakimasu.

If you still want to try anime, I highly suggest the following animes: Tokyo Ghoul, Shingeki no Kyojin, Death Parade, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Parasyte, Death Note

Another newsflash: Japanese people strongly dislike (well, more like fucking hate) "otakus", so don't think Japan is your promise land if you're an anime fan. If your room is full of figurines of anime girls with oversized breasts and posters in a language you don't even understand, most likely Japanese people will fucking hate you.

TL;DR - don't watch anime.

 

When IJAH was in the anime phase a while back, I decided to watch SAO. (Sword Art Online)
Because people kept telling me to watch at least one episode.
I quit watching right after episode...8(?), because anime to me will always be boring.
Spongebob is more interesting than anime.
I'm not an anime fan (I think you've noticed by now) and I don't think you should consider watching it.

Jk, thanks for explaining. I won't have my room filled with posters of Anime (I have a Tatjana Simic playboy poster on my door omg she's good looking for a 50+). I rarely like any cartoon or videogame anyway, but maybe I'll try one of your suggested things.

Well to me watching anime is like watching tv series, like say The Walking Dead or something along those lines.
The thing is anime (to me) is more interesting for me to watch because of the plot and characters, whom in each anime can be completely different. There are so many kinds of anime that can pretty much appeal to any guy/girl.
Wanna watch an anime with deep plot, characters, constant drama and action? Watch something like Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin).
Or if you prefer a story about love, tragedy and/ or about someone's life (like a student in a highschool) like say Hyouka (an anime I'm currently watching).

Instead of reading others their opinions why don;t you create your own?
Just watch a few and see for yourself if you like it or not.

Imo, while some anime can be really good, there are others that can be bad and even horrible! Mainstream anime can be good like SnK. I would definitely recommend anime but don't watch only 1 series. Watch 2-3 series from each genre and if you don't like it quit it.

Oh lol that's something you should do in your room, locked and lights out. Unless you want to explain your parents alot. When his parents finds out that he watches anime and knows nothing about that topic. The first thing shouldn't be something that looks like p.. (Nonetheless most yuri is R or 18+ rated anyways)

I've watched all of them and can savely say those are familyfriendly. Why I'm watching anime? Why not, its fun. Actual it replaced the times when I went to the cinema. Instead I watch some animes what has longer screeningtime. Of course there is lots of crap in that culture like @Fawn said. In the fanbase and the shows itself. So if you hate some shows try to find a diffrent genre. Personal I like slice of life and romance and some action series. At the same time I hate futuristic, doesnt mean all anime is bad. You really should start to watch some and make your own opinion.

And fanservice. Yeah love it or hate it. Shaking bodyparts all over the place to keep the viewer entertained o_O Just for the "told you so" :D Is fanservice ruining anime? Probably yes when not done right. Maybe thats part of the deal now, like b.. one twitch. Ugh.

 

Anime is cool because of the storyline and the imagination people had.
Instead of Cartoons thats mainly only for kids. Anime can be watched by any age because it has different genre.
I mainly like anime because of the storyline and plot twist lol AOT (It got a REALLY good storyline).
There is also intense Animes that leaves you hanging at the edge of your seat like Tokyo Ghoul.
Most animes have A LOT of plot twists and that usually what makes the storyline very interesting.
So thats what I think made animes cool.

 

5 centimeters per second is some deep shit for a 3 episode anime

 

Yeah. And the light effects where one of a kind. But I've watched others that took me more on the feelstrain.

To be honest, if you're looking for a very amazing and dynamic storyline, you would have to be extremely choosy. Like, real choosy. Only watch what interests you. Anime's sterotype is: bombastic fights with lots of screaming, oversexualized women (even men), culturally shocking topics, and bodies out of proportion. Most are true depending on what type of anime, whether it be serious and dark, bizarre. We've got anime about sports, fantasy/scifi, and plain teenage angst.

Your mileage may vary on every anime. A good anime has good story. A good story has a progressing plot with beautiful weaving. Beutiful weaving comes from interest. Only watch anime you're interested in. If you'd want, I can advertise the anime I like. They're good, but it's your choice on what you'll do.

1. Code Geass: Of course I would be advertising this. It's a prince rebelling against his own country because of its social norm- conquering and/or killing the weak because the strong prevails. The prince acquires a power enabling him to make anyone bow down and accept his every order. I got the feels in this one.

2. Angel Beats: Another humorous anime. Everyone is dead and is in the afterlife, but can't move on because of their regrets in life. Because of their regrets, they fight against God for giving them unfair lives. Nope, this God isn't real in this story, so yeah, no controversies, no sensitivities. However, it's very short.

3. Death Note: Well, you're going to be watching it anyway, but it's about a guy who acquires a notebook that kills people. He immediately murders the greedy and evil men.

4. Attack on Titan: Actually good. Humans against human-eating Titans. The only thing barring me from watching it is the sensation of being eaten. :(

Hope you find some good anime scattered out there. If you have a life, go look for the shorter animes. If you don't, then watch One Piece or something. That has 600+ episodes :P
