I'm an honest guy, alright? So, yes, it was intended to be somewhat rude. Sometimes you need to do so to get your point out there, sometimes you don't. I decided to use it (as I always do...*sigh*, I should probably use it less) this time because I thought it would get the point out.

EDIT: In addition to this, it gives you the right to be rude in your responses on this thread towards me, and not be looked at as a "flame war" or "nearly crossing the line".

I'm going to agree with Oreo here, what was the point of this exactly?

People who know they are going to come back should only just make a profile post that they're going for some time. But there are people who say they are leaving but then come back because they, pretty much, can't do it. I'd say that's fine, if its once. Whereas if someone is going to constantly post threads saying; "I'm leaving forever" and then make a return every week or so, it's just to get attention. Yeah the message in the thread may come across as 'harsh' but I get what you're trying to say.
Isn't there a set rule on the Introductions/Farewell basing on drama threads? I'm sure I saw something that had been posted around the lines of someone constantly leaving and returning on a regular basis as a drama thread to get attention. Something like that at least.
Even though this thread has been made, I doubt people are going stop doing this. IMO, all the "Temporary leaving threads" are kind of getting spammy.

    I agree with this.
Hell yes. Even though I, yes, have done this so many times, I asked mine to be deleted for the reason of that I can't stay away.
I'm being honest, I've practically stayed for 2 reasons: To see these forums evolve and to talk to my friends, because for some, this is the only way of communication. If I had no friends and I didn't want to see this community and forum evolve and see how it turns out. I probably won't be here. I would of left about 6 months ago.
I'm only starting to drift away from the community and going my own path, I've relied and this forum and community for a good year now, and I feel like I needed to start my own pathway. That is why I made the leaving threads.
But some do exactly what Pyro said, then expect to get attention, because that what it is. Attention seeking. It's there in plain sight. They say "Oh I'm leaving and never coming back!!!!!!11!111!" Then the next day or two days later, they're online, commenting and making threads, acting like they never left. It's annoying, it's attention seeking, it's plain out stupid.

The moral: If you're going to leave. Then leave. Don't go make a giant thread, then come back the next day and act like you never leave, because it's attention seeking, it's stupid and you end up making a big fool out of yourself than someone who will get
sympathy, it's easier to either leave silently or leave and stick to your vow. I understand if things come up, but make sure everyone knows about it, not like I said above, come back and act like you never left.

In my opinion, (that's what we're really doing, right? Clean debate of opinions) The "Introduction/Leaving" section is rather useless for anything outside of an introduction. Leaving threads show no purpose, they only stir up drama and/or are used by the poster to gauge how many people will care if they leave. This, to me at least, seems to be the reason why people post about leaving then continue browsing like they would normally.

Sure it's good and all to notify others that you are going inactive, but wouldn't it feel more personal just to leave a note on your friends profiles, or just pack up and go?

kk so I'm just gonna warn you I only read the first post and that's what I'm gonna talk about and I don't give a crap about what other people said on this. So keep that in mind before quoting this.

    So
Yes, it is highly irritating that people make "leaving threads"and then they're just on 24/7 or they come back after a day.
There was this one person who made about 5 leaving threads I pointed it out on one of their threads.
They said that they leaving thread failed.
I was confused because how can you "fail" a leaving thread.
So anyway I pointed it out and got warned for it or something which was bullshit but that's not the point.
Yes they really do need to stop making leaving threads for vacation or for like a week break.
You can make a status about it.
Also most of the leaving threads are attention seeking which is annoying.
I just don't like leaving threads tbh.
    that's all bye.

    Gonna participate for once. Yaaay.

I don't particularly find leaving threads pointless. You're letting the community and friends know you're leaving in a way that you don't have to go and message every one of them individually. Could you do that through Skype? Absolutely, but you don't have the whole community on Skype now, do you? This lets the whole community know you're gone right off the bat. Some people won't care, sure. Others will.

Temporary leaving threads lets people know that you'll be gone for a while, and not to attempt contact with you.

However, leaving threads can get annoying. Some of them, yes, are repetitive.
And it does get annoying when you make many of them without leaving.

I've made a few leaving threads myself however, and I've changed my mind.

Many people who make leaving threads do so because of something that happened. They don't think it 100% through when they decide to leave. So they stay.

And besides, it's HARD to leave something you've been a part of and loved for 1+ year.

    So, my final argument:
    Leaving threads: Annoying? Maybe.
    Useless? Nah.

It's not that they're pointless, it's that when you leave and come back each day after, you give no point to your leaving thread. As for temporary leaving, I wish we had that "Away" status from the old forums, instead of having to make threads about it. Would make life much easier.
