For some reason, those online indicators are gone.
You know, that green dot in our avatars if we're online...
It's gone.

Anyone know where it went? O_o

any idea what the cache and history has to do with anything?

 

These are parts of the website that are already stored on your temporary folder. Most browsers use this files to load websites faster that you already visited. So it apart shows the old website, not the new one.
