I just got braces today. I made this tread to ask if anyone who has had braces if they have any advice?
Eat anything you can but corn on the cob, spinach, or gum and stuff like that. Please don't limit beyond that, it doesn't matter. Also, brush your teeth twice as well as normal. When you get rubber bands(if you do) take them everywhere and never skip or forget a day.
BRACES SUCK. My best advice is to not eat popcorn, or gum ._. And MAKE SURE you clean them properly c:
Lol.. I had braces Don't eat/chew popcorn, nuts, gum, or ice cubes... Also... brush Ur teeth 3-5 times a day otherwise you'll come out of braces with 32 cavities... I don't think you want cavities..
Well, don't play any sport that involves a ball without a mouthguard. I had a friend that go badly hurt with a soccor ball. Get special mouth guards for braces.
Had them when I was 9!!!! My advice: First week dont talk. After a month just eat whatevs, didnt bother me.
Nuuu popcorn! Well...YOLO Good thing I'm not not talented with instruments! Except the cowbell, I'm the best cowbell player.
2nd time with braces. Blame growth spurts. I did everything properly when I first had braces. Stupid lower jaw growth.
Alright, I literally got my braces removed 2 weeks ago. So, I more or less still remember what I have to do, what I did correctly and what I did wrong. Basically, you don't really have to do anything except brush your teeth c:
Even though some can get away with not following this, just do this to avoid the risks: Don't's: Eat foods like hard chocolate (mainly the ones that have been in the fridge are hard), don't have hard lollies. I was on an airplane back from a holiday, I had something like those lollies called...lifesavers...something like that and it when I chewed on it, my back tooth made a clunk noise and went on an angle, WHICH ACTUALLY RESULTED IN MY GETTING BRACES. Adding to the don't's: It's fine to eat popcorn, try to avoid eating the popcorn corn/seeds. Avoid chewing gum. People may be lucky and get away with having chewing gum but please don't risk it. I went without chewing gum easily. Lollipops. Don't eat the lollipop. Suck on it. When you get to the small bit eating it can be fine. Just test it yourself, chew on the food and if it's seems pretty hard, AVOID EATING IT. Unless you just swallow without chewing haha. Meat. Be careful with meat as it can easily get stuck between your teeth. If any food gets stuck between your teeth/braces, use your pikster/brush(http://i.ytimg.com/vi/ZN_ObSYQtX0/hqdefault.jpg) to try at remove it. If this doesn't work, use an electric tooth brush and mouth wash and that should help. Don't play with your teeth. Avoid this as it may extend your time for having braces because you were moving your teeth yourself, not letting the braces do the right job. Do's Forks. Be careful when you insert a fork into your mouth. When I had braces, I kept hitting my braces with my fork and it made my teeth feel a bit uncomfortable. I was retarded :P Coke/soft drinks/any drinks with sugar. Try to limit the amount of these you intake. Try having these drinks through a straw or don't make the drink swish through your teeth. The sugar will build up on your teeth=not good. Every night, after you brush your teeth, use some mouthwash. If you don't already have one, buy a pikster/brush, it really helps to remove any of that left over sugar on your teeth, any food caught. Be careful with your tongue and lips. Don't try to play around with your braces using those. Clean your teeth well. If you haven't been told already, use an electric tooth brush. Make a circular motion on each tooth for 5 seconds. So tooth one, circular motion for 5 seconds, move onto the next tooth, circular motion for 5 seconds, move to the next tooth, etcetera. Make sure you clean the front, under and behind of your teeth. For your really thin teeth that don't really have a bottom/top, you therefore only have to brush the front and back. Only need to brush your teeth the normal amount = 2 times a day. Morning and night. I'm really tired so I'll stop there, hope this helped :)
This is important. I'm getting braces soon, and it seems like a lot of work. I had a retainer in the second grade, because my two front teeth were supposed to be like this- -- but they were like this- l- One of them was literally turned 90 degrees. So yeah. I made the mistake of chewing bubble gum. I've learned my lesson. It was everywhere and horrible. I suggest you play it safe and just don't try gum.
