I recently bought a new laptop (a big part with my own earned money) and I just wanted to let you guys know my new setup :D. It's a
ASUS R510LDV-DM981H-BE with intel core inside i5, 8 GB ram, NVIDIA GF 820 graphics card, 15 inch and 1TB storage capacity. With optifine installed minecraft runs pretty smooth. Today I reached a peak of 120 fps!

Nice! nVidia makes good laptop graphics. With your i5 expect to average 60 FPS :).

    I probably mistook the 820 for the 840 :p

Anyway, hope you like it :).

Why would you spend a lot of money on this laptop when you could easily save up more and just build a computer that's ACTUALLY good?

6GB of RAM shouldn't have any effect on MC. Probably another case of bad graphics in laptop :L

I did a student job so I still have money left over and I wanted a laptop so I can take it with me (for university, traveling...). A desktop pc was not an option. I also wanted a overall decent quality laptop, not especially for games

Yup. Because the components ramp up the performance when they have more power to use. When unplugged, they'll skimp on performance to consume less power and save battery life.

Also, if I may ask, which i5 is it? :P

Trust me, there are a LOT of i5's.

To find out, just click the start button, and type in Device Manager.

When you get inside, it should give you a complete list of all your components, including your processor (i5). If more than 1 shows up, it's because it's multicored. Just show i5 <4 digit number(and maybe 1-2 letters)>

    A laptop is portable.
    A computer is not.
I doubt you know that much about computer hardware lol

No need to be rude. He had no idea that the computer was to be taken around places or the purpose. I was going to ask the same question actually, and I know a few things about computer hardware. Everyone should no that no laptop is going to get you good gaming performance, unless you're crazy enough to go for a Razer for the price of one of the most powerful gaming PCs lol.

Anyways, I checked your processor myself using the name of the laptop, and I was suprised, because that's the only i5 I've ever seen that's dual core XD. The 820 is also a LOT weaker than I expected.

Not to be negative or anything, but even for a laptop at that price I'm not sure you made a good purchase :/ You certainly could've gotten something more powerful for that sort of money, but hey, if gaming isn't the priority and just general computing usage, then that should be fine, but you probably could've gotten equal performance for less.

Well, that's the thing when buying a computer. See what's most important for your use and buy according to that.

It's also going to take time. Even I've taken 2 months just to choose the right parts for my new pc :P.
