Earthquakes!!!!!!!!!!

Guys I'm scared and terrified. An Earthquake measured 5.5 on the richer scale has hit my country. I live in South Africa where earthquakes and natural disasters NEVER happen. It started on Monday while I was at school, Huge cracks on the ground and cracks on the walls. The walls of houses and buildings are made of brick so it can really hurt someone. There is only 1 death reported. A man got killed by a wall collapsing on him. I'm glad there was only one death but geologists say there may be more and more violent earthquakes anytime this month. I'm scared coz its the first time I ever experienced an earthquake. Its like as if the ground would disappear any second. PLEASE give me advice. I dunno what to do, I was never taught about this sorta stuff at school ever in my life. And it was said tsunami's might happen as well because the earthquake spread across half the country, from inland to the ocean. If you go on google maps or on the Atlas find South Africa and see the towns if you don't know what I'm talking about. It's quiet a small country, It started in Blomfontein, then it spread from Johannesburg to Pretoria, Polokwane down to Nelspruit and Durban. Which is literally half the country. It also spread into Botswana and Lesotho. Neighbouring countries. So please give me advice. :(

 

Best thing to do is just not to panic.

I've almost been in a tsunami once, gladly it didn't happen.
I was on a small Island somewhere in the Indian Ocean at the time. . .
I was really freaked out too, just don't panic.

 

One time while I was sleeping (not) there was an earthquake and we very rarely get them.

 

I know how to tell if a tsunani is coming.

If you have a beach near by, watch it frequently. If the water suddenky retreats so you can see parts not visable in low tide and birds suddenly retreat, warn everyone and try to get to high ground as soon as possible. If you see a tsunami off shore, and I'm sorry to say this, it's too late.

And in earthquakes, take shelter under desks or tables. They will protect you.

 

We had a hail storm and a tornado (same day) once which isn't as bad. Instead of panicking, people were out on the streets instagramming it (while it was hailing). I would just try and stay calm and safe :) Can't worry too much unless it gets really bad. Earthquakes are natural and its just the shifting plates, so any area is bound to get them at one point. I hope you stay safe!

 

I live in California so we have them a lot. I still freak out though. I say the best thing to do is NOT PANIC. Just like edgy one else said. I know it's really hard but you can get through it! <3 here's some more thorough information if you need it

The earthquakes started happening when someone disturbed someplace underground in the mines which is causing the continent to split...But I know I must not panick, when the tremor happened during school everyone was laughing and taking selfies while I was the one telling everyone to get under their desks, all they did was stare at me like I was stupid while bits were just falling off the ceiling, no one got injured, just a few scratches and bruises for them. I came outa the desk untouched :3

Wait before ze lock I live in California and i do earthquake drills and fire drills all the time..it's really hard not to laugh..

But yeah just chillax the odds of dying in an earthquake are 1 in 2million for an average earthquake so your chances of even getting injured are about .3%

 

I remember sleeping during an earthquake.
It felt good.
