I thought I'd make a quick thread giving you all a better understanding of tagging vs. reporting.

If a post is breaking the rules, rather than tag staff members, report it. We have a report tab up top, similar to the tagging thing, where we see reports. We are more apt to see reports as what they are and prioritize them if you use the report button instead of tagging us.

If you see a post that you have to report, DO NOT REPLY TO IT!

Replying to a post you reported, stating you reported it, or responding to the specific content that you reported, will be treated as spam, and could indeed have actions taken against it specifically.

Note that when you report a post, it makes a copy of the post in that current state, in the report. That means even if they edit the post after you report it, we will see what was originally said. So if you see a post that breaks a rule, report it immediately.

Bear in mind that if we spot a trend where a user keeps abusing the report link falsely, we will investigate it. But we will not take solid action against the individual without having established for certain they are maliciously abusing it.

That said. If you feel that a thread should have a staff members attention, but is not actually breaking the rules. Say you spot a good idea in suggestions, that would really save us a lot of trouble, go ahead and tag a staff member that you feel is relevant to it. (Don't bother tagging Jerry or Harry, they will ignore tagging. I'm not even sure they get notified of tags.)

That said. Once a staff member has been tagged, please don't keep tagging them. We get a notice for every tagging in that thread, and it spams our notices. If we determine this is being abused, once again, investigation may follow, and actions you don't like may happen if we find your abusing this.

That said. Outside of everything I said above, you may tag us the same way you would any other player.

I hope this clears up some misunderstandings on how to handle things.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have, or post feedback on this.

No problem. This way you can use reporting and tagging more effectively.

If you all cooperate by using those two things effectively, we can actually more efficiently respond to your needs and take care of everyone quickly.

Also, that will mean we wont have as much tag spam, and can actually take the time to check tagging.

What if there's a suggestion worth noticing, yet within the thread there's a post you want to report, say, example:

    Code:
    Note:
This didn't actually happen, I'm also playing around with
    quotes x3
    Would you:
    A) Quote the staff and inside your post alert them of the situation.
    B) Quote the staff and REPORT the post that is of question.

    Thanks.

When a post is reported, staff should actually look at the thread its in to get context, which would result in the idea being viewed.

Nonetheless, as a precaution, I'll allow you to do both. Good point mappy.

Tagging is when you do things like @TheBlackHamood which makes a link to their profile but also sends a notice to that user that they were tagged.

Well, as you know, there have been a ton of spambots here and there. I have reported A LOT recently, and about 6 in one day. Would that technically be malicious reporting?

Report them, thats not malicious abuse of reporting. Your reporting spambots and thats what your supposed to do. Just dont post on the spambot thread. :)

    No, he's right, report them.

Malicious report would be, say, reporting some of my posts because the humour is 13+ and you don't appreciate my humour.
And not only one report of that, reporting millions of posts that don't even break the rules.
So, reporting 10 spambots a day is good, reporting 15 random posts is not.

Quick question... probably off topic but...

Why do we have report buttons on our own profile page?

I have a question that I'm still not entirely sure about. I've reported bumped threads and nothing has been done to the reports. Should I continue to report bumps or should I just leave them? Also, what about double posts? Should I report every one I see (that doesn't have a reason to be there) or should I leave them be?

If you think it might be breaking the rules, report it. If we determine its not a problem, and leave it alone, don't take it as indicative you did something wrong.

As I said, we wont worry about incorrect reports unless we spot a trend. We dont want you discouraged from using the report feature, we just don't want you abusing it either. :)
