People often think of me a liar when I tell them this, though it's true. Hey guys, you know me. [God]. I am 12 years old in the 8th grade right now. It is the beginning of summer and the school year is over for me. I am moving up to my 9th grade year in highschool. I am nervous but anxious for highschool. I have a few questions that maybe a few teenagers can answer for me. (If you are in grade school) 1. How hard is highschool? 2. How are scholarshps earned? 3. Does highschool support NHD (National History Day)? 4. Is there any way to earn scholarships? 5. Is being 12 in the 9th grade too young? 6. How are freshmen treated?
1. How hard is highschool? It depends on the time you put into studying and work. Especially if this is in AP classes or so. Even high school in general can be hard. (Socially, mentally, and even physically.) 2. How are scholarshps earned? Scholarships can be earned by "appealing," to colleges when you move onto college. For example, you get all 95+ averages for your high school years, you have a good status with teachers and students, etc. Georgia Tech, MIT, or Harvard or so would give you a scholarship to come to their school since you appeal to them. 3. Does highschool support NHD (National History Day)? This I am not sure of, sorry. 4. Is there any way to earn scholarships? Refer to my answer to question two. 5. Is being 12 in the 9th grade too young? Yes and no, it all depends on the point of view. 6. How are freshmen treated? Freshman are normally treated like shit for the first few days, but as your reputation goes around, that will determine how you are treated. Even though I am in 7th grade (Moving to 8th grade), I still think this is how it works.
My sister is in the high school, and I'm going into 9th grade as well after the summer. My answers are based on what I have asked her and what she tells us (my family). 1. Classes are pretty much the same, but everything mostly depends on the teacher. Math, depending on which level you go in, seems to be a struggle. My sister is pretty good at math but after she entered high school she started getting failure notices from her math teacher. Her grades dropped because of a unit where she had to learn proofs which she didn't do well with. All of the other classes are pretty much the same learning speed and the information kind of repeats. 2. No idea. Go to Shadow's. 3. Depends on which school you go to, in which state/country. So IDK. 4. No idea. Go to Shadow's. 5. The kids going into high school in my grade are all 13-14 but this is another thing that depends on which state/country you live in. 6. In my school the freshmen are treated like any other student. If you need help, ask an upper classman and he/she will probably help you. Though in my school there is one day when all of the seniors barricade the main hallways with their bodies so that the other student will be late for class. If you have this, you probably will not, find out which day it is and make a separate route (what my sister did). All you have to do is try not to get lost, and if you do just ask for help. There really isn't much too worry about and there aren't that many changes. Hope this helped, and good luck!
1. High schools difficulty depends on which classes you take, if you take all normal classes, it'll be the usual step up from your previous grade, take harder classes if you can handle it. Colleges like that. 2. When it comes to scholarships, make sure you sign up for them, and meet the requirements. 3. Depends on the school 4. Read 2 5. Depends on the district 6. There's a misconception that freshmen are often toyed with by upperclassmen. There's so many factors to that, it's not really something to worry about if you stick with people you trust. Most seniors and upperclassmen will be friendly, as long as you aren't trying to aggravate them. You mist likely aren't going to be treated like crap, but you'll probably find that people keep to themselves. Especially nowadays.
1. How hard is highschool? Depends on the school. I think my school is probably one of the hardest in the estate. 2. How are scholarshps earned? Idk 3. Does highschool support NHD (National History Day)? Idk 4. Is there any way to earn scholarships? Idk 5. Is being 12 in the 9th grade too young? I think it's kind of young, but not too bad. 6. How are freshmen treated? Upperclassmen are actually usually nice to them, but then again, my school isn't filled with douchebags XD
It really depends on your school and location. Personally being 12 is fine, just don't mess with those older than you, some of them tend to... be a little aggressive.
Well I can only answer the first question bc I'm not American which there questions seem to be based on. High school is not hard. Enjoy it xD. Oh and did u skip a grade to be 12 in 9th grade? Ewon
1. How hard is highschool? It depends on how you spend your time with your studies and what classes you take. If you think you have what it takes to take Honors or AP classes, go ahead. You have to be on top of things in class. 2. How are scholarshps earned? Be like the best person in academics or sports if you are very athletic. Other people's answers have a better explanation. 3. Does highschool support NHD (National History Day)? I didn't know this day existed. 4. Is there any way to earn scholarships? Academically, if you do really well with standardized testing. I don't know where you live because there could be different tests. I have PSAT, SAT, and ACT opportunities. I think for PSAT, if you get a very high score on that test, you will get the National Merit Scholarship. When I mean very high, I mean like very very very close to a perfect score. There are other ways to get scholarships especially in the athletic field. I don't know much about the athletic scholarships. Our volleyball team in my freshman year was really good (State Final Four) and 3 seniors got scholarships to play for colleges. 5. Is being 12 in the 9th grade too young? There was one kid in my grade who was 12 when he was a freshman. I wouldn't say it is too young. 6. How are freshmen treated? Well it could be different if you go to public high school. I go to a private high school and when our class were freshmen, we were considered one of the best freshmen classes in maturity and other fields and the upperclassmen were nice to us. Heck I got friends who just finished their freshman year in college. The class one year below us however, were not as mature as us. For like the first two to three weeks, you will probably experience some form of ridicule. Afterwards, the ridicule will probably die down a bit.
1. How hard is highschool? Let's say this: The grading system comparing my middle school to high: A's are now B's B's are now C's C's and below are F's 2. How are scholarshps earned? By completing a certain amount of principle classes within your four years of school. 3. Does highschool support NHD (National History Day)? It does not. We do have many holiday like months. 4. Is there any way to earn scholarships? Yes. Completing what I said from before or doing some extra circular stuff. 5. Is being 12 in the 9th grade too young? Not really that much. 6. How are freshmen treated? It's different for every high school. For me, I was fine. Even a few seniors my year were actually really nice to me. Once you get though your freshman year, it'll be better socially overall.
So I am I. The 9th grade going to 10th. 1. How hard is highschool? Well it really isn't hard. It depends on if you get good grades or not. When I was in the 8th grad I heard it would be hard because of all the stuff we need to learn. But it's not hard once you learn it! Also sometimes the food is not all good. Also 9th graders are treated not so good. I became friends with seniors because of theatre. A lot of people will be like. Oh your a fish. welcome to school yada yada. A lot of the seniors think they are all that but don't pay any attention. Just make some good friends and 9th grade will be a breeze. 2. How are scholarshps earned? I honestly don't know. You don't really need to worry about that right now. All you need to do is keep your grades up, be there on time and don't always be absent, and don't be a trouble maker. Also take the classes that you are told to take. And take the best program. The less you do, the lesser chance of getting a scholarship. 3. Does highschool support NHD (National History Day)? Hmm. I honestly don't know what you mean by that? If you mean holidays: Well here in the US( more specifically Texas) We are off for: Christmas, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Presidents' Day, Labor Day, Martin Luther king Jr. Birthday. And we have some breaks once in a while. 4. Is there any way to earn scholarships? Just like I said before. I don't know. But follow what I said up there^^ 5. Is being 12 in the 9th grade too young? Depends. People will think your smart and other things. But are you short for your age? Because I am 15 and I'm short and people think I'm 12.. It's more about height and less about age. 6. How are freshmen treated? Not so good. Since we are new and at the bottom of the class. They don't really like us :/
1. How hard is highschool? - Depends on how you look at it. It's a matter of perspective. 2. How are scholarshps earned? - Achieve extremely high grades or apply for scholarship. 3. Does highschool support NHD (National History Day)? - I am not sure what you mean by this... 4. Is there any way to earn scholarships? - Refer to #2. 5. Is being 12 in the 9th grade too young? - Is being 14 in your equivalent to Grade 12 too young? If you can do it, you deserve it. 6. How are freshmen treated? - Okay, in my school, we look at freshmen as the little kids. We are the giants. We usually welcome freshmen to school. But most of us don't care what level you're in. But... Grade 7 is freshman, not Grade 8...
1. How hard is highschool? It's surprisingly easy 2. How are scholarshps earned? Assuming its American, I dunno, 3. Does highschool support NHD (National History Day)? ^Same answer 4. Is there any way to earn scholarships? ^ 5. Is being 12 in the 9th grade too young? Yes. I'm 14 and there's people turning 16 this year ;n; 6. How are freshmen treated? Nicely
Thanks guys. I'm good in the GT classes I'm in, I just need to work on responsibility. I usually tend to do my homework in the morning of the next day. I'll try to work on that. Btw I am only going to be 12 in 9th grade for 3 school days. I turn 13 on August 6th.
That's fine, but something I would suggest is actually using an agenda. When you use an agenda, you can plan ahead in time and prepare much better, therefore causing less stress than you would have if you didn't plan ahead.
I don't know how it works in America but in the UK I am almost in year 9. The year before high school I thought it would be SO hard and impossible but its actually easy. Just work hard, it really pays off. (that is how you earn a scholarship) Like for my GCSE's at the end of high school I need to get a B+ or higher to get into a really good college. But i'm going to do some of them in the next few years starting from next year. Highschool isn't that hard. Also depends to what type of school you are going to...
