Minecraft Minecraft Name changes update: Theory's FAQ's and more!

Hello everyone! Today I've wanted to share about the new update Mojang will be releasing, because myself, I am pretty excited about this, since this account was my friends, then he quit Minecraft, and gave it to me, anyways here's my possible theory's, solid FACTS and more! (Yes, I've done my research.)

OK, So let's start off with the update itself, so for those who haven't really seemed to care much, (or don't know much) about this update so here's what I'll start off with:
So, the new update hasn't really had much to show the name features or item's coming, besides snapshots.
Anyways, the update (for all I know) is that there will be some new blocks, and some cool features with making your own world, I'm pretty excited for that, like alot.
That aside, for the name changes, mostly what they've given us so far, is some FAQ's but they also hold some information that we will be able to use, here's some of those things:

If someone's name is, oh I don't know, -- TestSubject69, and he decides to change his name, he won't be able to change it to CaptainSparklez, or something already taken, so you won't have to worry of multiple you's..

ALSO.
If you're username for example TestSubject69Number2 happened to be banned, and he changed his name to TestSubject69Number3, he would still be banned from the server, Also a plus.

AAANNNDD..
If you change your name and don't like it, there will be a cool down, so you can't just change it right away if you don't like it, I wasn't able to find out an ACTUAL amount of time, but my guess would be about a week. (Sounds painful, I know.)

Now, moving on, my own theory (It's kinda lame) won't really be exciting, and more of a bummer, but it's just my THEORY. <--- just to make that clear, it's not for REAL, it's a theory, if you don't know what it means, look it up. genius.

Now I think something similar might happen with name changes that might happen with Realms.
Now trust me -- I know what it says, "We want it to be freely available" but didn't something like that happen with REALMS at the start? My understanding, it was said only certain people at the start had access to realms, for testing, and I heard, that they weren't sure that realms would be free or not, but it was more likely to be free then cost money, now I can almost doubt this to, BUT, hear me out, they needed money to host this, therefore turning Realms into a paid service, now what does this have to do with name changes? Well, something like that COULD happen, probably not, but it could, because Mojang MIGHT just to have to pay a small fee when people change their names, I'm not entirely sure, but this is very well possible, anyways, let's move on.

Here are some thing's I would like them to add with name changes;
I think it would be EXCELLENT if they added this with their name changes;

- Allowing hidden features with a keyboard such as: ç ƒ å © ∆ ´ † ∫ √ µ someone might be able to make something really cool with that!

- Adding unique symbols or, pictures of your choice beside your name in server chat or even on a vanilla server, possibly in single player if you're bored, heres what I mean: ex, (unicorn photo) maezief: Hi
Of course without the exception of pornographic photos, to do that possibly linking a website that has the image on it, so they could block out any Adult Content for those that are younger.

- This one i'm not sure of but maybe adding it so you could use colour codes to uniquely colour your name, although this may be a big nono to some people, (not sure WHY..) but that would be kinda cool in my opinion.

ALSO -- Be warned for any websites saying that they've found out a way to change your username early, all of those are scams to get your Minecraft account.

@maezief I am just gonna tell you already, Blumiere is already taken (https://minecraft.net/haspaid.jsp?user=Blumiere with that link you can check if the name is already in use or not, it says 'true' so its taken, sorry.

Put behind the equal sign (=) the username you want to check. If it says true, its already in use and if it says false, it isn't in use.

Ok, thank's for the info, I looked it up on another site but nothing came up so I thought it wasn't taken, I tried that link and I'm just gonna switch the "e" and the "i" lol.. (I'm a sneaky guy) so it would be Blumeire

Just a question. Let us say I have donated for a rank or am a mod. What happens if I change my username? Will I get the rank taken away from me?

 

I'm not quite sure, but I'm pretty sure you'll keep your rank since it's sorta like bans, if you get banned and change your name you're still banned, so I imagine it you won't lose it, and if you do you CAN always contact a staff member.

Im pretty sure skin changing has GOT to be free. It is a feature that should've been added since the start of Minecraft and, plus, isn't name changing just like skin changing? You choose a skin, upload it to Minecraft, and you get it in-game. Name changing would be the same, except you change your name and have a cooldown to change your name again (because it would get very confusing if all players changed their name everyday). About the cooldown, most games have some 2 to 3 month cooldown to change usernames. Since Minecraft has such a big community, it might be even longer of a cooldown. Just saying.

UPDATE;
For those wondering when the update will be out, Iv'e found out that it WONT be released in 1.8, and probably 1.9. It might even come out in 1.10, but I'm pretty sure it's 1.9.
That is all, I'd be shocked if it did come out in 1.8, but just don't be expecting 1.8 to offer you name changes, Mojang has said it multiple times, that they want it to be released later, apparently 1.8 is to "soon". Anyways, that's all I have.

Regarding this.
It depends on the plugins, how they are written, and how they have handled the UUID thing with Minecraft and Bukkit.
If the plugin maker(s) have followed Minecraft, and has finished support for UUID, then there should be no problem.

However, if the plugin does not support UUID, then it runs the risk of you losing your mod / donation.
Something that can be fixed with a simple email, but still.

You can't do that, unfortunately. Normal users don't have those characters on their keyboards, and it would really wreak havoc on plugins, existing or new.
Also, how would you can someone with those symbols? You can't just type the symbol...

I believe, from what I've been reading, that they're leaning more towards a very, very long cooldown.
My guess is probably a year. Or more.

1) Mojang won't have to pay anything to have the name change be propagated. It's just... There.
2) It has been said time and time again. Name changing will be FREE.

The cost of hosting images like that, for so many players, is astronomical. Let alone coding the back-end system and the rendering system. Not only that, but the bandwidth required to serve those images... *shudder*

You make me want to write a website for checking if a Minecraft username is taken...
