Hi! I spent tons of time making new friends on the server, but my life doesn't necessarily revolve around it.
I hang out with friends during school and weekends or freetime.
I take up many hobbies, such as community service, piano and singing and much, much more
If there is ever something wrong, I'll tell a super good friend.

With online friends, its easier not to be scared to talk to them about personal things, but not giving out personal info such as location or something. You can easily tell your troubles and have them help you, because they are less likely to judge you, whereas irl, if they do, then you have to live with them every day. With online friends, they won't go spreading rumors for 'popularity' or won't talk to you because your 'uncool'.

Behind the screen, there are many nice tweens, kids and teens (not saying you should assume everyone is safe). Often, people are judged because of looks, but online, you get a chance to look past that and they'll like you for your personality and who you really are, not your 'designer' clothes or expensive new handbag lelel.

I enjoy my online friends, as well as my real life ones and I'm not about to leave or be less active because I'm 'antisocial'. If you are, you just have to balance out your life and it's easy online to get away from your troubles without worrying about being judged. :)

I understand what you're saying.

I just know a lot of people (me included) who use the online friendships as an escape from reality.
As in, a complete escape. We forget about real life completely, and we focus just on this online life that we have curated.

Again, it's really just... People need to learn how to balance. And I know a lot of people on this server whom don't know how to balance their online life and their real lives, or use this as an escape, and simply don't face the realities of life head-on.

Nah, I'm not back. This is just something that I thought I should share with the community, as it's something that they should all read.

I don't agree with all of this. But I have to say, you say that you're always the sad one, but on your server, you created a lot of sadness. Me, Emo, ThornFalk, all left. I only play on a small group of servers now. Why? because you didn't realize that we weren't the ones breaking the rules. Anyways, this is getting off topic. I'm tired of people saying stuff like "If you're not 18 or older, you can't use the internet. Go play some baseball kid." I have to say, I just don't agree with this.

 

Maybe a handful of people here spend most of their time here, but you can't round that up to everyone. Most people here probably do have a social life outside of the server and forum. You also contradicted yourself in a way, when you backed up the statement "You never truly know a person until you've met them in person", yet you still assume everyone here is overly attached to the forum. I agree, some people are. But coming from you, as a distant individual is quite judgmental and biased.

I'm assuming you were the one who wrote the "story".

Edit - I don't really think it's up to you to decide how each individual here spends their time, or what they do online.

In fact, I actually say at the end that people need to moderate their time.

I also never said that I was always the sad one. In fact, I said that I hid my depression behind a mask. So, therefore, I almost never showed my depression.

On the topic of the "sadness" created on my server: That topic is dead, and therefore should not be talked about. It did end up starting with Emo and her group of friends. I went through the logs. Don't argue on that topic.

Please educate yourself and read the entire article before you comment.

It's just mainly those people, though. Those who can balance their lives, I applaud them. They have learned an art that some of us can't master.

That being said, I apologize for some minor contradictions in this article.
I may go back and clean it up when I have a more focused mind.

 

I did read the entire article. Perhaps I saw it in a different way. I know it shouldn't be brought up, but we are all still very mad at you for it. Emo didn't start it. Didn't you see what namename said? Didn't? I can show you screenshots. We have a reason to still be mad. Although you didn't literally say that people under 18 shouldn't be able to use the internet, you made it pretty clear that that was what you were trying to get across. You said that you never said you were sad, but you literally said you were still depressed. I could tell you were sad, but still, do you really have to give sadness to others? I don't think so.

 

I'm ending that argument right here. I don't care if you're mad at me.

Also, you're reading between the lines. What I said is what I meant. Nothing more, nothing less.
I think that it is quite essential for youth to learn to use the internet, and for them to use it. It's becoming a way of life.
I'm just saying that they need to balance internet usage with real-life time. I wish I had a link to a TED talk that I watched. It brought up some very valid points.

Also, I never gave sadness to others. I solved others' sadness.

 

That's fine by me. Of course, I still disagree with the article.

I see what you are saying, but I can't agree. Being antisocial isnt the fault if the internet. Its your choice. I'm a bit tired of sick of people blaming their social awkwardness on the internet. The internet is just a name for the large, international social environment we use to collect information. The internet doesn't create social awkwardness, you do. You (a general person) are the only one capable of deciding whether or not you can open up and decide what you think, who you want to be and who want to talk to. YOUR choices have nothing to do with it. I wish more people could get that through their thick skulls for once. Nobody controls you, but you. You can't do anything but be an influence to others, so its best you look up, look around and find a mirror. Reevaluate yourself, the internet is not the source if depression, you are. You can get rid of every convenience, that even some live without and still be depressed. You can bleed every last drop till you die, you still haven't done anything. That's it, /end rant

 

I've left my computer, and I am not thinking to even bring it back into my life.
My parents had to send me to an eye doctor for spending too much time on the laptop, and I've been getting a bit of bad grades.

So I decided it was best for me to just stay in the forums and use mine chat for some time.
Anyways, this is getting kinds flame'ish, but doesn't matter.
