2,943,059,719 years ago, I consulted a Mortal Path Government official and requested to arrange a meeting with an immortal entity known as the Post Console. He said he could schedule it for AD 4693. I begged him to attempt to figure out a better time, as the fifth millennium would be the last place I’d like to visit. He managed to bring it forward by a mere 2,689 years. I stoically thanked him and waited for the day to come.
As time went by, the Console was losing his power and lessened in use. I had forgotten about the meeting, as the thing I planned it for was long resolved, but I could not cancel it at this point anyway. The Government’s laws turned stricter and stricter as time went on. Soon enough, the Console became history.
When AD 2004 arrived, I was reminded by the same official. I stared at the papers of information about the meeting when I noticed a line of shimmering blue ink on the Console’s personal information, which crossed the field of text regarding his mortal status. Above the crossed out letters, a new word was written in ink: MORTAL INTELLIGENCE.
I looked up and stared at the official. “The Console has been mortalized?”
“Yes,” he replied blankly. “Though he goes by a different name now.”
“What is it?” I asked.
“Classified information.”
I sighed. “Well, how long will it take to transfer him back?”
The official grinned at me. “Oh, he won’t change mortality. You will.”
It took me a second to realize what he’d meant, but it was too late. Two officials grabbed my arms from behind and placed metal cuffs around my hands. “Mortalize him,” he said, and they took off, leading me in their wake.
“WAIT! I DON’T WANT TO BE MORTALIZED!” I yelled at him. He laughed at me in response.
“The Government has very strict rules, sir. No immortalizing anything without proper termination, and no cancelling any meetings. This is the only way around.”
The officials placed me in the machine, and in a blink of an eye, every dream, every hope, every memory of my immortal identity was wiped from my consciousness, which now became a digital string of data stored on a giant network called the Mortal Realm, or, as its inhabitants called it, the Universe.
Later, I became aware that I had taken control of a young, chubby Jewish human. This particular vessel was intended to be public domain, but I kept it for myself, even though it was illegal. It didn’t matter; the rules of the Government could never contradict themselves. Sometimes I laugh at the way I outsmart the creators of my own reality without even trying.
As for the Post Console, I met him in the form of my human brother, which just so happens to be on the forums as @TheMint, hence why I’m posting my tale here. Our meeting has started almost 14 years ago, and is still running as I type these words. I enjoy this meeting, and I fear the day it would end.
