How am I pathetic for discussing religion on here? It literally makes no sense for what you're saying. Your ad hominem destroys any eligibility for any "argument" you have.

If you can't handle people discussing any topic on here, then you should leave. This subform is called "General discussion." This topic lies under that. You have no working argument here, and you have no say for what we should or should not discuss on here.

Lmao, I can't believe your ignorance to everyone else on this forum. If anything, you're the pathetic one.
There is nothing wrong with discussing religion and/or politics here, this forum pretty much revolves around this kind of thing.

Otherwise, I completely agree with this and believe that religion should not affect politics, no matter how benefitial it may be.

First of all, do you study logic? because I know very few people who even know what an ad hominem is

second of all this discussion is retarded because you can’t just separate someone’s religion from them. that’s completely unfair. please at least try to think about this topic, don’t just instantly deny it because you think it’s wrong

Um, the idea is that religious ideologies shouldn't affect politics, e.g. the Bible opposing homosexuality shouldn't be a decisive reason against it. Not anyone of political stature can't be religious.

So you’re at Chipotle, and you really like cheese, but that shouldn’t be one of the main reasons you get an item with cheese

No, you're at a government debate, and the majority of politicians happen to be devout Christians, but that shouldn't be one of the main reasons why homosexuality is unlawful.

Religion is based on faith not evidence or democratic opinion. It's completely fine to have a religious viewpoint but in a society of mixed faiths it shouldn't influence a secular debate on whether to increase taxes.

Imagine a government made of a majority of people of one religion, in which religion is a part of politics. Most decisions made would be decided based on the viewpoint of the religion, regardless of the positivity of their outcome.

Ad hominem is directed at the person, rather than the topic at hand, the guy I quoted said we were pathetic for discussing this, that is ad hominem.

I feel that in the case of issues that are entirely based upon morals, values, and ethics, religion has an irrevocable role in swaying the opinions and views presented in discussion. As much as people may say to take personal belief systems (including non-religions like atheism) out of the argument, I argue that you simply can't. It's too fundamental to the morals of people.
